Meditation and exercise are evidence based tools. Our meditative exercise is a powerful approach. Building on the practice of mindful awareness, we teach you how each area of your life influences the other areas. We show you how this way of thinking can help you to get to the bottom of your struggles with weight.
Services
Mindful Life Weight Loss was founded by Kim Gold and Steve Kanney as a way to help people permanently change their relationship with food. It grew out of Kim Gold's clinical work during her Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Steve Kanney's work as Chief Instructor at Still Mind Martial Arts & Yoga Westchester NY.
This country has developed a weight problem of epidemic proportions. 70% of Americans have a significant weight problem. Research studies and the media have recently begun to highlight the pessimistic notion that once you are overweight, there is nothing that can be done. The medical community has focused on reducing body weight by about 10% for a significant health benefit vs. the dismal prospects that people face without such weight loss.
We do recommend a meal delivery service to simplify the starting transition to a mindful eating program. However, we no longer make specific recommendations for services. If you would like to immerse yourself in a mindful exercise program that can produce the side effects of better dietary decision, please feel free to join our yoga, tai chi or aikido programs at our new location.
This book outlines the Mindful Life curriculum. It is the textbook for our program, as well as a self-help book for home study and practice. You are guided through the five areas of weight loss, and will create small goals in each of these areas. You will also learn how to eat mindfully, how to measure success, how nature can help with weight loss, how to handle emotional eating, and much more.
Bariatric surgery includes a number of procedures to help people with entrenched overeating behaviors lose weight. Some of the better known procedures include gastric bypass, gastrectomy, and a gastric band. Bariatric surgery is a very serious step. It is an admission that one cannot control their dietary behaviors quickly enough to prevent more serious medical consequences.
