Located in Southern Illinois, Bretz Wildlife Lodge & Winery is approximately 2 miles from beautiful Carlyle Lake. Inspired by our passion for South Africa and our love of wine, the Lodge features a rustic, yet traditional decor accented in African wildlife mounts acquired by our many travels.
The name "Lodge" was chosen from our visits to South Africa where a lodge is a place to sit and relax while having a cocktail, a bite to eat and enjoying a fire with friendly conversation.The Lodge started with Sandy's dream of running a small quaint winery with a tasting room. However her late husband Matt saw her dream and saw the need for bigger & better.

Step into our captivating wine room, the Kudu Room. The Kudu Room, named from the African Kudu, is a wonderful spot to relax and sample our wines. Wine tasting is complimentary at Wildlife Lodge & Winery. We have several varieties for you to try and fall in love with. Our wine names and labels share the African theme as well.
This enclosed sunroom adjoins Kalahari Hall with a view overlooking our Ceremony location and our pond. Serengeti Sunroom is the perfect setting for medium size gatherings. Bretz Wildlife Lodge & Winery offers a location for Outdoor Ceremonies. Ceremonies are performed under our gazebo, situated over our pond with fountains and beautiful landscape.
Kalahari Hall features a stone front entrance into an elegant hall that can accommodate approximately 400 people. Once inside the hall, a spacious area for dining and dancing awaits you. A large stage area that adorns an African hut feel is surrounded in greenery. A large bar area that has been crafted out of thatch, bamboo, and stone also awaits you inside.
Bretz Wildlife Lodge & Winery has an enclosed sunroom adjoining Kalahari Hall with a view overlooking our Ceremony location and our pond. Serengeti Sunroom is the perfect setting for medium size gatherings. Serengeti Sunroom may be used in conjunction with Kalahari Hall allowing us to seat additional guests for your event.

Artichoke and Spinach dip would be a hit but so little of the dip that we questioned it and were immediately responded to that it was “portioned” which means they have been told this before. Too bad it would be a good appetizer. The catfish pieces for entree were so small it was more breading taste than fish. Onion rings were good but too salty. The nachos were great. Nice atmosphere and good service. Hope they make the changes to these dishes. We love Carlyle Lake and appreciate places to eat.
