She helped create and launch the HLPA back in 2003 along with several charter members including: HPM Building Supply, HWT Hawaii, Honsador, Hardware Hawaii, Plywood Hawaii and Rinell Wood Systems. Kate steered the ship of the HLPA for over 17 years to become Hawaii's leading wood and lumber trade association across Hawaii.

Not only was she dedicated to the HLPA, Kate was the immediate past president of her Rotary Club in Wahiawa and a dedicated volunteer, an avid scuba diver (On the boat most Sundays with Husband, Mike and Scuba Instructor Dave Livingston), as well as the Executive Director for many other Hawaii-based organizations.

Our Mission is to promote lumber products as a preferred building material based on the proven track record of wood and its achievements of long-term performance success in Hawaii's construction industry. This goal will be achieved by connecting stakeholders, professionals and the various user groups by providing Hawaii specific, up to date resources, guides and educational and networking opportunities.
Borate-treated lumber protects homes from fungal decay and pests, including carpenter ants, roaches and the highly destructive Formosan subterranean termite. In Hawaii's particularly tough environment, borate-treated wood has performed very well in field tests. Structural systems built with borate-treated wood have a commendable record in real world use.
Choosing to build with wood provides numerous benefits for both consumers and building professionals. From being naturally Green to being naturally beautiful, there's no doubt that wood is the premier building material. Due to sustainable forestry practices, a vast majority of the wood products used in the U.S., known as certified lumber, ensure enough supply to build 1.6 million homes each year.
The HLPA is committed to providing industry professionals with the most current and factual information regarding wood and lumber products. As a result, the HLPA has created a central location where professionals are able to easily find and access the industry's top wood and lumber related publications.
The combination of high humidity, hot sun, tropical rain and salt air could take a significant toll on building materials for island residences, businesses and public places. But wood that is properly pressure treated to fight decay and insect attack will last for centuries and offer island residents the advantages of beauty, economy and availability.
