The history of Hardware Hawaii begins with the fascinating story of Lyndale Hardware, co-founded in 1941 by R. Dana Lundquist. Dana was the son of Swedish immigrants, raised in very modest circumstances. With $1,000 each of borrowed capital, we had built a 1,800 square foot building in the Village of Richfield, a sparsely populated suburb of South Minneapolis.
By 1944 we had purchased all the property in our block and built a shopping center that included a supermarket, bank, dry cleaners, upstairs offices, and a greatly enlarged two-story hardware store. In 1950 with my wife and four children, we went on a second honeymoon to Hawaii, and fell in love with it.

Our Hale 'Ohana collection now includes five Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) models! A new law allows homeowners to add an ADU, which includes its own kitchen, bedroom and bathroom, to their property. To qualify, the lot size must be a minimum 3500 square feet and not be in a planned community development or part of an association.
We are proud to introduce "Hale 'Ohana: Local-Style Family Homes from Hardware Hawaii", a collection of 14 packaged homes designed with your 'ohana in mind. Ranging from 400 to over 3500 square feet, including five ADU models, Hale 'Ohana represents local-style living at its best. Most of the homes in our Hale 'Ohana collection can be built on a slab or post & pier foundation.

I've been in this store so many times for different reasons. I've been coming here since I was a young girl. They have items you wouldn't think they would carry. They have a plumbing section, lumber, paint, doors, screen, nuts and bolts and cleaning supplies. Shower curtains and liners, mops, brooms, scrubbers and plants. You'll be surprised at what you'll find.

Today, June 7, between 5 and 530:
Associate ignored my family; choosing to help "affluent" looking customers instead. Literally looked at my family, then turned and walked away to help customers who came *after* them. He did this TWICE. Still found what we needed, but would have been quick and nice to receive assistance instead of being passed over.
Also, it is way too warm inside. Please crank the ac.

I had a piece of glass cut to fit my window and picked up a few other things, he said the glass would be waiting for me at the register and I went out to pay for it, didn't think I should measure it because it was a simple cut, got home and found out it was 3 inches too short. Went back but they were closed but still there, I asked if I could just get another one real quick, after all it was thier mistake and he told me no.
That's not the customer service I've got to know them for. For the first time I question whether or not I should go back. Jon E.

I believe in Aloha and shopping local whenever possible. I have been going to Hardware Hawaii for years and the service is now noticeably worse. I went in today with the intent to spend a bit of money on things I needed for my new house, but some of the folks were simply rude and it's been increasingly harder to justify shopping there. After today, I will no longer go there for anything, even if it means shopping online or having to pickup in town. It's a shame as I want to support the local business, but business is earned and can be lost.

The guy at the lumber counter (Asian, 60's, with grey hair and glasses) wanted to charge me $3.95 for a foot long piece of 2x4 from the scrap wood bin, and refused to cut it in half because it was raining (huh?). For the record, it's was barely drizzling, off and on. He obviously didn't want to get up off his comfy chair for a small sale. I was planning to buy some light bulbs, a power strip, and a few other things, but decided to go where my business is appreciated. As I was leaving, I told him what I thought of their customer service, and he replied "fine".

Knowledgeable staff, friendly, local. Always a good experience coming here. This is where I go to for my indoor furniture lumber. I dont know anywhere else where u can get s4s 2x4s, 2x6s, 2x2s. This location in particular, Hawaiian braddah with the manbun hooked it up and cut a piece a wood for me for free. Thanks and I appreciate it.

As a customer,I strongly advice the upper management to watch the cameras closely.
There is drug dealing in the mapunapuna store and it's coming from this tall black man name Willie.how is this happening right under the nose of the employees and the staff.customers who pretend to be shopping are actually waiting for Willie. I saw money being put down on a back isle counter by a customer. He then walks away, then Willie grabs the money and walks to the back few minutes later he walks out from the back and hands the pretend customer something that can fit in the palm of his hand.what the heck

Exceptional staff and very helpful even though I ended up not buying anything. There prices can be a bit higher than the chain hardware places BUT they have pretty much any type of wood you need that they other places won't. I built something for the Missus for Mother's Day and went to every possible place including Re-Use and this was the only place that had everything. The wood I wanted costed nearly $500.00 and the guy in the lumber department was nice enough to price out everything and print out receipts for various woods to find a more affordable option. Eventually I went back to

This Hardware Hawaii location has it together in a huge way! Wonderfully staffed, knowledgeable and friendly local people working there and serve you with a huge SMILE on their faces. Jamie probably doesn't remember me specifically but that's okay, because I remember her and her friendly attitude and that is one of the huge reasons I drive out of the way to go there.
This trip this past week, I TOOK MY MOTHER. She's a huge City Mill fan and loyal customer for more than 50 years of City Mill. She says now that Hardware Hawaii is her place to go for what she needs! At 87 years
