The South Carolina Academy of Family Physicians is the state's largest primary care medical specialty society and a constituent chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians. The association has approximately 1,400 members. Today's family physician is the patient's partner in a lifetime of good health.
The SCAFP Board of Directors has created 12 Commissions and Committees organized to assist them in the workings of the chapter and to address issues pertinent to family medicine and the practice of primary care. These groups provide an excellent forum for physicians to make real impacts in improving the specialty.
The purpose of the Family Health Foundation of South Carolina is to establish and administer programs that strengthen and enhance family and community medicine. The Foundation supports activities which encourage medical students to pursue family medicine as their intended specialty and supports research activities in family medicine which ultimately may result in improved patient care and better outcomes.
The chapter's magazine is published three times a year and gets delivered to all 2100 members. Copies of the publication are also sent to stakeholders in the state's health policy arena, including some elected officials. Advertising in the publication is a great way to get your message in front of SC's largest specialty medical association.
During the 2014 legislative session, the South Carolina General Assembly made several important changes to the Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) managed by SC DHEC (also known as SCRIPTS). This new CME requirement does NOT apply to (1) physicians who are renewing their licenses for the first time after receipt of permanent licensure, (2) reinstatement applicants or (3) physicians with a Limited License.
