Services
In March of 1972, two young immigrant brothers from a small farm village in Malopolskie, Poland, John and Gene Luszcz, opened a small neighborhood deli specializing in homemade smoked sausage and other Polish delicacies.
Drawing upon their family's sausage-making recipes and smoking techniques, John & Gene's on West Roscoe Street, gained almost instant popularity and a loyal clientele catering to the largely Polish Chicago neighborhood anchored by St. Ladislaus church. For 8 successful years John and Gene personally served and greeted hungry customers providing a taste of "home" to the local community.

Whenever I have a friend visit me, I always take them here to pick out some sausages for dinner. I'm very fond of the spicy bockwurst. If I'm making a stew, I go for the hunter's sausage.
If you need refreshment to go with your meat, they have a huge selection of alcohol on the second floor. Very easy to find something for even the pickiest of drinkers.
The picture attached is the selection that my friends chose for dinner!

It had been a long time since we had been to Gene's Sausage Shop and didn't know that it had moved to a new location. However the new location was great with the 2 story store front with the meat counter, deli and coolers on the first floor and food goods and wine and other adult beverages on the second floor. It was great to pick up some dry goods that we hadn't had for awhile and of course some meat and cheeses from the deli which were excellent as had always been. Great seeing the new location and the staff were friendly and helpful as always.

Love this shop! I don’t eat meat often, so when I do I like to make sure I’m getting good quality and supporting a local business. Wonderful German sausages and a good selection of hams and salamis, as well as fresh cuts of pork, beef and chicken. I also enjoy their deli salads, pierogies and latkes! Make sure you go upstairs to see their nice selection of wine/beer/spirits, and dry and canned goods- including excellent mustard. 🌭

Drove 2 hours to get here and spent 300.00 on meats and other food items.
Was very disappointed when we got home and found old discolored lunchmeat was sliced and sold to us. I called and spoke with the manager. Was asked to send pictures which I did. Was also told to include my phone number so he could return a call after checking into this matter. 4 days later and 2 follow up emails to the manager I still have not heard anything. Not even so much as an apology. What a horrible way to run a business!!
Had to select a star in order to post my review but, THIS PLACE GETS NO STARS FROM ME!!!!

This place is wonderful. My husband is German and he was in heaven. They have so many German foods, including sausages, candy, beer, meats. I enjoyed being in the store and the staff was friendly. They have a huge beer selection. The Alpine cheddar sausages are very good. The store has a fun European atmosphere with festive decorations. I will definitely be back during Oktoberfest to stock up on some stuff for our German dinners.
