My family's association with funeral service dates back to 1890, when my great-great grandparents moved to Denver from Santa Fe and opened a funeral home at the northwest corner of 15th and Platte Streets in lower downtown. In 1919, James "Gentleman Jim" McConaty established McConaty's Boulevard Mortuary at Speer and Federal Boulevards.
In the 1940s, James "Jim" McConaty, Jr. joined the firm, and his brother Joseph "Joe" McConaty later joined the firm in the 1950s. In 1956, the McConaty brothers established a second location on South Colorado Boulevard. Jim McConaty died in 1983 and his brother Joe died in 2001. Joe McConaty sold his company to me in 1986.

Horan and McConaty was recommended to us when we lost a loved one recently and I am so thankful we used their services. Ben was our funeral director and he treated our family with the upmost compassion, respect and his attention to detail was impressive. He even made our family laugh during our “meeting”, which was exactly what we needed and much appreciated. We can't thank the whole team enough. From the begging to the end they showed nothing but respect and understanding during such hard time for our family. Hearing some unpleasant stories of the disrespect to a deceased body removal from homes we were very hesitant and terrified of that process. Horan & McConaty members were the BEST you can ask for. From the moment they walked in to the house we new our loved one is in great hands. What a beautiful last moment you have given us. It was sincerely appreciated. WONDERFUL JOB!!!

Ben Markwart and the entire staff at Horan & McConaty were absolutely the best to deal with when my Mom passed away recently. In this difficult time for my family they were a rock to lean on, and a hand to guide us through the process. Alice was absolutely amazing to work with. She was very thorough, communicated well with our entire family and was patient as we made decisions. She went out of her way to make sure everything was taken care of just the way we had envisioned it. I was able to dress my mom, and she made the whole experience comfortable, walking me through every step of the way and allowing me time to say good-bye.

I have had nothing but incredible experiences with Horan & McConaty, in spite of the losses involved. I have lost more loved ones and others than I care to count. No matter which location, I have experienced care, professionalism, and loving service for my family, friends, other loved ones and myself. It was not corporate, it was loving. I have had the honor of working with John Horan and some of his staff in outreach projects and they give from the heart.

Losing a loved one is so hard, and David did such a fantastic job organizing everything, making sure he took care of me at the church, and coordinated an amazing memorial/reception at your Centennial location. The feedback from everyone was amazing. I also have to give Matt, our MC at the facility, a shout out as he clearly researched our culture and personalized the memorial. Also, Lee was wonderful in assisting the participants at the church and the pall bearers all said he was incredible. I couldn't have asked for a better experience in honoring my late husband.

It goes without saying that losing a loved one is an extremely painful source of grief. That it was our young child was just beyond understanding. I just simply don't have enough words to express our sincere gratitude and love for our funeral director Abby and her remarkable staff and how we were treated with care. From start to finish, Abby helped us with every step to ensure the process went smoothly.
