In the last decade or so, medicine has suffered more than ever; not from lack of progress, but from unconscionable greed of corporations and insurance companies that have permanently and irreparably altered the landscape of how clinical care is delivered today. As a result, physicians spend less time with their patients and more time documenting to satisfy their payers.
Empathy and compassion are all but absent from the delivery of care today in an office setting where a Doctor or a health care provider has to see between 20-30 patients a day. I do not personally believe that one can deliver the best possible care when hurried; when a provider is on the clock and monitored in so many ways to ensure that he/she remains "productive".
