As I recall, Uncle Elmer Vadnais painted around the early 1900's, when they would mix up the paint themselves, sometimes right there on the job. They would add some linseed oil, gum turps, and other ingredients that are no longer used. Much of the practical wisdom of painting taught to me comes from him.

Ben had a long history of painting before his sons, as well. He saw the introduction of the roller. About that time, latex paint was invented. The roller and latex paint were marketed together as a great way to cover over old wallpaper. Ben and I started painting together in 1976. He was in his 50's and I was 18 and we lived on the Cape.
Services
I have been in business for myself for 40 years on the South Shore of Massachusetts and in the painting trade for 30 years. As a Master Painter, I offer a wide variety of residential and commercial renovation services from power washing to bathroom remodeling and interior and exterior painting.

One of my specialties is restorative pressure washing, where years of neglect can be washed away and a new layer of beautiful wood is revealed and can then be properly preserved.I also provide skilled carpentry services to repair and replace damaged wood and restore the beauty of your property.
I will meet with you at the property site and take time to learn your needs and concerns and answer all of your questions. I will examine your property thoroughly, to determine what work needs to be done to accomplish your goals, and provide you with the longest lasting solutions to preserve your property and protect your investment.
Building exteriors take a beating from our harsh New England weather and require the most time and effort to prepare them properly for painting. Thorough and painstaking surface preparation prior to painting is key to a long lasting paint job.

As a Master Painter, I take the time to properly prepare building exteriors and interiors including ceilings, walls, doors, windows, trim, decorative trim and moldings, and woodwork before painting and staining them, to ensure a long lasting, beautiful result. If necessary, I will first powerwash the exterior, to remove any mold, mildew, dirt and algae.
The owners of a Marshfield home called me in to repaint their wood trim and pointed out wood that had rotted, including a window sill that was infested with insects and a facia board under a gutter that had a gaping hole in it, where it had rotted away. When I examined the home more thoroughly, I discovered that six more sills were rotten and the wood trim had split severely in a number of places, due to the paint wearing away.
Careful powerwashing will remove mold, mildew, algae, dirt and some loose paint safely and completely from all exterior surfaces of your property. Algae is the green material that is a precursor to moss. Paint cannot adhere well to any of those, which can cause new paint coats to fail quickly. Powerwashing is often an important and necessary first step in preparing your surfaces for painting.
