P.A.W.S. For Rehabilitation
Pet Alternative Wellness Solutions (P.A.W.S.) is a veterinary physical rehabilitation clinic in Virginia Beach serving the greater Hampton Roads area. When you come to P.A.W.S., your pet will be evaluated by licensed veterinarians who are certified in physical rehabilitation medicine. Our veterinarians design customized treatment plans for each patient in order to address pain, functional deficits, and reach client goals.

We offer a variety of treatment options that include acupuncture, underwater treadmill, massage therapy, photobiomodulation/laser therapy and therapeutic exercise. We treat a variety of conditions such as post-orthopedic surgeries (cruciate ligament rupture, luxating patellas, fracture repairs, etc.), post-neurologic surgeries, spinal injuries, arthritis, obesity, and weakness due to old age.
Services
At P.A.W.S. for Rehabilitation, we understand that your pet is a member of your family. Our goal is to provide the best physical rehabilitation and pain management services available in a comfortable and welcoming environment. We strive to provide the best quality of life possible for our patients, every single day of their life.
Dr. Patterson is originally from New Jersey. She studied Biology with a specialization in Marine Sciences and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University in 2000. She then went on to receive her veterinary degree from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. Her internship was in Emergency/Critical Care and Internal Medicine.
Just like in human patients, animals can benefit tremendously from rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation therapy can greatly help with post surgical healing, injury prevention and strengthening athletic and companion animals. Exercising in water provides the advantages of buoyancy, stability, and hydrostatic pressure.
We welcome you to explore our veterinary physical rehabilitation clinic, the only one of its kind in Hampton Roads. During our initial evaluations, our rehab-certified veterinarians do a full-body check of your family pet. Radiographs of your pet's presenting issue or any survey films that might have been taken.
We have many exciting tools to help your furry family member feel the best that they can! Some are new and cutting edge, such as LASER Therapy and Magnetic Field Therapy, while others have been used to heal for thousands of years, like Acupuncture and Massage Therapy. A lot of the treatments we utilize for our patients are modified from the human physical therapy world but until recently no one thought to adapt them for animals.

I have used PAWS following both surgeries my pet had and I highly recommend them. My pit Bull loves all the people here, I can tell they treat and care for her well. Would use again in the future although I hope I don’t need to😌😌

Only went to drop off medical records of our dog to get him some therapy but it will take 2 visit one for evaluation and one for post evaluation before they decide the course of therapy. But the receptionist was very helpful and friendly.

We have dog injured (partial paralysis) while playing and were told by vet $10k for surgery or maybe “they (Paws) could do something helpful”. Well, they certainly did do something! For a much more affordable price our dog was walking again in a little over 4 weeks! No surgery, limited pain meds, lots of love and attention!

Dr. Ladd is awesome, he gave my girl a complete evaluation and treatment plan. My dog had a rear leg amputation 4 years ago due to cancer. She was starting to have trouble getting up and around now that she is a senior dog. Between laser treatments, exercises, massage and the underwater treadmill she is getting around much better and is in less pain. I even took dog massage classes here so I can massage her effectively at home. The whole staff supported us and are so friendly and knowledgeable. The facility is clean and well managed. This kind of care does not come cheap, but you get results.

Took our dog in for water treadmill therapy. The people there could have been nicer to ne or our dog.
The made sure Chris was calm and comfortable while the tank was filling. The therapist kept him interested and distracted while the tank was filling which did the trick.
After the therapy, they drained the tank and made sure any hair was removed and then they did an excellent job drying him off. C gross is a sheltie, so that says a lot!

Deborah is amazing! She is constantly updating her knowledge and training practices. She understands training the owner to understand what their dog is saying, as much as the other way around. Her system of jumping in to do 6 sessions as you can allows puppies to socialize with various puppies rather than only the same handful for X weeks, so they are calm and casual astound new digs and Oriole as they grow up!
Overall an amazing program! A hundred times better than anything from a big box chain!

Dr. Patterson and her assistants were great with my dog throughout the visit. We had a little bit of a wait before the visit that ran past our appointment time, and felt a little rushed at the end of the appointment, but other than that they did a wonderful job and I love their approach. Definitely glad to have them in the area and would recommend for rehab!

Great rehabilitation veterinary clinic! Staff is very knowledgeable, patient and pleasent to work with. Have taken our dogs to them for rehabilitation services ranging from post-surgical recovery & rehab, on-going supportive care for our agility dogs, and for preventive strengthening & conditioning work. This is THE best veterinary rehab facility in Tidewater!
