Littleton Equine Medical Center
Welcome to Littleton Equine Medical Center, a full-service primary care, referral and emergency veterinary hospital facility for horses. We provide complete care for your equine athlete or companion both in our hospital and in the field. Since 1950, it has been our mission to raise the standard for exceptional equine care through passion, compassion and professionalism.

We offer a wide array of medical and preventative care both in the field and at our facilities. Harry W. Johnson, DVM, established the practice as Littleton Large Animal Clinic (LLAC) in 1950, treating horses, cattle, pigs, sheep and goats. Horses, however, have always been a passion among the practitioners.
Services
Since 1950, Littleton Equine Medical Center has been striving to provide the best care for each horse, from beloved companions to equine athletes at the highest level. Our hospital has continued to grow and evolve over the years. As Colorado became more urbanized, our clinic transitioned from caring for all large animals to horses exclusively.
For the client's convenience, ambulatory care continues to be an important service offered by our practice. This service includes preventative care, lameness exams, minor surgeries, and numerous diagnostic procedures. Radiographs, ultrasounds and shockwave are a few of the many services that can be administered at the barn or boarding facility.
Our staff of certified veterinary technicians and veterinarians, including a board-certified internal medicine specialist, and board-certified surgeons, look after our most critical patients around the clock. When necessary, we consult with national experts on neurology, cardiology, and ophthalmology.
For our client's convenience and best interest of our patients, ambulatory field service continues to be a valued service offered by our practice. With portable imaging, endoscope, shockwave, and a fleet of trucks, we are able to offer many of the same services we provide at our clinic including minor surgeries.
Regular preventative dental care is one of the main reasons horses are now living into their thirties. Dental care is paramount to maintaining sound health and maximum performance levels. We are committed to offering excellent dental care from the routine exam and float, to oral or surgical extractions.

I have been using Littleton my entire life for my horses. They have always done an excellent job, and as usual they were on-point today. We were able to get an appointment last minute to avoid the incoming weather. Dr. Tisher was able to quickly address the issue, and only basic diagnostics were used, helping keep this vet visit affordable. We were in and out in under an hour! Additionally, they have set up a nice outdoor area (COVID purposes) for visitors to wait. There is a picnic table, trash receptacles and well maintained restroom. Thank you Littleton Equine team for your continued expertise

Such an excellent facility and impressive service. We were in a pinch to have our gelding get a travel health certificate before a storm came in, and Littleton Equine Medical Center was more than accommodating. They went above and beyond, great service!

SUPER PROPS & KUDOS to Littleton Equine!!!! Man... when you need to get it done, they get it done! I have 2 not so tame wild mustangs that I needed to get Coggins test and Health Certs so I could get them to a trainer. They set me and my horses up for success the day before with sedation medication (to be given prior to their appt) then day-of they took the time it took - with numerous attempts - to get blood drawn and health exams. Dr. Deacon + Breanne were nothing short of amazing today! I use several vets depending on need, circumstances, horse, etc.... and the team at Littleton Equine are PROS

Before this morning I was an account holder at Littleton Equine Medical Center. Never had a problem, since I only used their services for spring shots..etc. Today was the first day I used their emergency service. My 24 year old quarter horse came up very lame. I called at 9am and was told they could be to me at 10:30am. I live 45 min away from my barn, so I cleared my morning and went to meet the vet. Waited till 11:30 and called to ask for an ETA. Was told on the phone the time slot I was told wasn’t correct and they could be to us around 1pm. Waited till 1:20, called back and they couldn’t

Positive: Professionalism, Responsiveness
My horse was recently admitted to the icu with a twisted stomach, and the staff worked immediately to give him the best care. He ended up receiving colic surgery performed by Dr Hill, and she had him out very quickly. The staff is all super nice and I am so grateful for the fantastic care.

My mare was dead lame in her front right foot and Dr. Lori came out on Father's Day to do radiographs. That kind of commitment to quality care is invaluable. I was given his cell phone number and he texted me the following day to check on my horse. He also helped me make medicinal choices appropriate for my budget. I love his office administrator as well. She's always super friendly! Everyone with whom I've interacted at Littleton Equine has been outstanding. They really are the best of the best and I cannot recommend them more highly!

I cannot give enough praise for Littleton Medical and their staff.
Being a pre-med student I ask every question ever, do lots of research, and call doctors constantly when my horse is sick. Two years ago my mare choked and was taken to their ICU where she was taken care of with EXCELLENT quality and treatment choices. This week she came up with strangles and mild purpura hemoraghica complications. They had come out several different times to my barn already and continued to be ever patient, helpful, and attentive as we sorted through all of her symptoms and treatment options. When we had to bring

After moving to Colorado almost 5 years ago I found the most success, professionalism, and care from Dr. Scott Toppin and the staff at Littleton Large! From the staff at the front desk to surgical teams, and regular maintenance on show horses I believe they are top of the line. It’s a job to keep these equine athletes feeling there absolute best and they are fantastic at doing so. I also feel that they go above and beyond to keep great communication with their clients to make sure they are aware of the care of their horse.
