Services
Based on the spirit of Christ's love, AK Child & Family provides quality care and treatment for children and families who need special assistance to develop self-esteem and the ability to live in harmony with others. Students - We provide therapeutically sound, cost-effective services with treatment decisions driven by the needs of students and families.
AK Child & Family was originally founded as the Jesse Lee Home. This Methodist mission was established in Unalaska in 1890 and provided a home to hundreds of children. Dr. Albert and Mrs. Agnes Newhall taught school, led church services and provided medical care. In 1925, the Jesse Lee Home moved to Seward.
AK Child & Family Residential Treatment is here to assist youth with emotional and behavioral diagnoses who need a highly structured environment and 24-hour supervision. Our residential treatment program is housed on two campuses - Jesse Lee Campus and Maplewood Campus. There are six cottages and the ages / genders served are contingent upon the needs of the youth in the community.
AK Child & Family provides a range of services for children from all across Alaska, from all walks of life. In 2012, AK Child & Family adopted a Trauma-Informed approach to care in our treatment programs, however, our services are not limited to only those with a history of trauma.

Children who are experiencing emotional distress that is causing an impact to their daily functioning and / or safety towards themselves or others are children who should be assessed for appropriate treatment and level of care.We encourage you to contact the AK Child & Family Admissions Department to discuss the concerns you have for your child with one of our clinicians.
As you probably know, April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Working to prevent child abuse is absolutely critical, but so is learning how to respond when abuse has already taken place. If you've been following AK Child & Family for any recent amount of time, you are probably familiar with the "ACEs"-Adverse Childhood Experiences.
