This landmark house, begun in 1881 and completed in 1891, was the home of the Winslow P. Burhans family. It was occupied by Rachel Burhans, widow of W.P. Burhans, who died before the home was completed. The style, Chateauesqe, with Queen Anne and Richardsonian elements, has a varigated Ionia sandstone as the basic exterior finish.
The Portland location has been a funeral establishment since the 1930's. Formerly owned by the Neller family, the building was acquired by the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home in June of 2002 to accommodate the growth of the business. Known for its deep tradition of being one of the only funeral homes to serve this community, we are proud to call the building at 210 East Bridge Street our home.
All of our licensed directors adhere to the highest standard of ethical practices and are committed to ensuring that all of your needs are attended to. Their commitment to the community and genuine compassion toward families are but a few of the characteristics that make them outstanding in their field.
After over a year of research and planning, Michael A. Lehman chose Portland, his hometown as the site for his new endeavor. Being born and raised in this community in Ionia County, he felt that this was the most logical decision. In the year 2000, Keith and Rosemary Neller joined the firm, bringing with them over 85 years of tradition and service to Portland and its surrounding areas.

Mike is such a wonderful man. He has done a majority of my family's funerals and has done a phenomenal job. He showed complete compassion for my heartbroken father while he made the arrangements for my mother, then a few short weeks later had the unfortunate task to do my father's service as well. He even included such small details as putting my father's hair into a ponytail, the way he did it every day, and I didn't even have to mention it. It's the small details like this that make Mike such an extraordinarily caring business man. His parents are such sweet and caring people and make you feel

The Funeral Home owner came out of his office where he had been sitting with the doors open, and scolded the deceased's 3 year old and his 3 year old cousin for being to loud, when they were actually being really good for toddlers at a funeral for over an hour...
Yet a few minutes later in middle of the memorial, his helper was in the office with double doors wide open, on her phone getting information for a different funeral, being louder than the children just were! I found that rude and insensitive...
A word of advice... Office doors were made for closing!
And to top it all off, when the deceased
