Call
Play is how young children learn about their world. Their curiosity, creativity, joy of living, and sense of wonder flourish in an atmosphere of play. Children learn cooperation, independence, resilience, and the concept that there are many ways to solve a problem. Play provides a stress-free, natural way to develop all the pre-academic skills.

They gain mastery over their bodies, deal with conflicting emotions, and negotiate complex relationships with their peers. Children learn to become learners, which is among the greatest gifts they can take with them for a lifetime. We are a small, nurturing preschool in Albany, NY that uses a self-directed play-based curriculum as its core learning strategy.
Services
With an entire career in the human services field and 18 years in early childhood education, Eileen Jaklitsch brings a vast amount of experience to our preschool classroom. As a teenager, Eileen volunteered at a summer camp for children with developmental disabilities, and says the experience changed her life and started her on a path of helping children integrate learning and fun.
We have a long period of focused play and discovery time each day, providing children with plenty of time to start and finish activities at their own pace. During this period children circulate to different centers and areas in the classroom that incorporate our ongoing themes and curriculum.

Over the course of time at our school, children learn to wash their hands independently, get their own napkins and cups, pour their own juice, and take turns.Children and teachers eat snack together. This is a wonderful, social time where language, social skills, and manners are practiced. Parents take turns signing up to bring in snack for the entire class.
Toys, art materials, and sensory items like play dough and shaving cream are fun, but they are also tools that help children learn about themselves and the world around them. Play is critical to the healthy growth and development of our children. As they play, children learn to solve problems, to become curious, and to take initiative.
I first encountered St. Vincent's Preschool as a therapist providing services for a student there, and having been to over a dozen area preschools, thought so highly of St. Vincent's that I was willing to drive from West Guilderland so my own child could attend. Staff consistency is a luxury in the preschool field, and St. Vincent's has been amazing in this respect!
