The history of Lake Allatoona began before it was first authorized by the United States Congress and signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt through the Flood Control Act of 1941, and updated later with the Flood Control Act of 1946. Obviously, flood control was one of the primary goals of the project that created the lake officially known as "Allatoona Lake."
Although construction was authorized in August of 1941, the project was shelved until the end of WWII. In 1946, after a delay of five years, work began with fervor. The mightly Allatoona Dam was set in place on the Etowah River. Unfortunately, the town of Allatoona was flooded, along with many farms, homes and businesses, when the land behind the dam turned into Allatoona Lake.

While the rest of us scavenge Arby's coupons, somewhere in this great big world, there are people who worry about interest rates on their $72.4 gazillion. Others have boats so big they have to check bridge clearance data on Lake Allatoona, so they don't chop off their yacht's top 10 decks by trying to squeeze under the bridge on I-75.
Make LakeAllatoona.com your first choice for specific or general information about Georgia's greatest lake. We'll keep you up to date on local events, area attractions, where to rent or buy a boat, and which parks will be just perfect for tenting overnight or for your corporate shindig. The location of Lake Allatoona - an Army Corps of Engineers reservoir - is officially just beyond the northwest boundary of metro Atlanta, Georgia. The lake's formal name is "Allatoona Lake." Local families who have lived nearby for generations still refer to it as "al-TOON-uh." If you explore the area, you will soon believe the lake was created just to sell bridges and to slow traffic.
Acworth, Georgia, is no longer the best-kept secret in the South. With such spectacular parks, convenient location and friendly residents, it's no wonder the estimated population in 2016 has doubled since 2000. Acworth, however, is not too big to welcome you to town. Acworth, Georgia, has more than its share of Southern hospitality, ladies and gentlemen, and abundant opportunities to make the best out of life.
How popular is the City of Canton, Georgia? According to national census figures, the population of Canton tripled from roughly 7,700 in 2000 to 23,000 in 2010. The popularity of Canton has nothing to do with its former fame for producing denim fabric or the infamous removal of Cherokee Indians in 1838 and the subsequent Trail of Tears death march.

My wife and I called before heading to the beach. Was told at 8:30 by the information guide that the park was still empty to come on as we expressed a 1 hour drive to him and he said that it’s for sure be open. Upon arrival we were not only told that the park was closed but were explained that we weren’t allowed to access the park regardless because of my 4 month old American bully. Also were told no restrictions and the beach is pet friendly. Very disappointed in the beach and there service as I’ve heard great things about the experience and staff, but was let down tremendously. I wouldn’t

This is a great place to enjoy your time away from the world. Reason for the terrible rating is due to the abusive Host that was hired for the 2020 season. This man and his wife are abusive, scream profanities, and hate the campers. The other couple who have been around for years are the exact opposite. My family and I, as well as others have opted not to return this season to avoid being abused. Hopefully the crazy couple will not be allowed to return for the 2021 season.

This is a good campground with plenty to do. It's full of children riding bikes, people taking their boats, kayaks, or jet skis out, fishing, swimming, hammocking, and more. If you're looking for a campground right on the lake this is a great one for that. The sites vary from directly in the sun, on the water, or up in the shaded trees back in the woods. The bath houses are decent and the campground is setup pretty well. The people working the front are hit or miss. Some are very friendly and others completely lack personality and come off as rude. The gate locks at 10:30pm and doesn

Every year on my birthday I look forward to going camping. For the last 3 years we have camp out here at Sweetwater Campground. I just love Camping her at site#46& #44. about 60 of the sites are waterfront, If you like living on top of the mountain and look down on to the lake then you might want to try campsite #1-13, you can't go wrong at this campground 75% of the campsite are in great location. Also there a light blue house on your left hand side of the road, where camp fire wood is sold, I highly recommend that you get your campfire wood with them. It's about 1/3 quarter of

Very kid friendly and pet friendly. But my problem is, I'm the only person that cleans after their dogs. Mind you, I have a 93 lb black lab so that is no easy task. The dachshund is easy. So if you can't clean up don't bring your dogs and keep them away from our campsite. The lake is beautiful and the smell of camp is relaxing.

This is the ONLY place that this chick will camp in our area! HUGE fan of this camping spot...here's why;
Located directly on Lake Allatoona and surrounded by big beautiful trees, this camp ground is the best in Cherokee County!
The sites are large and covered with pea gravel which makes it so clean! They each have their own fire pit as well as grill.
The area is so large that you can choose to be directly on the lake, on the beach, or in the woods. When you reserve your spot you can look at the map and it will show you exactly where your spot will be.
There is a boat ramp if you choose
