The Child Care Council of Dutchess and Putnam, Inc. works to promote affordable and quality child care, provide information and support to families, and strengthen the early childhood workforce in Dutchess and Putnam Counties.

Created in 1970 as an advisory body to the Dutchess County government, the Child Care Council of Dutchess and Putnam, Inc. is the New York State designated Child Care Resource and Referral agency for both Dutchess and Putnam counties and is part of a network of 39 such agencies throughout New York State and more than 800 nationwide.

The Dutchess County Legislature establishes the Dutchess County Child Development Committee. There is one secretary as the only paid employee. There are five day care centers in Dutchess County. The Child Development Committee is a founding member of the N.Y.S. Child Care Coordinating Council (now know as the Early Care and Learning Council).

Children & families at all income levels can access regulated child care to meet their needs. Promote an initiative for standarized federal background checks for all child care providers. Child Care Aware of America promotes national policies and partnerships to advance the development and learning for all children.
