My career here at A1 Tattoo started in 1998. I've focused on building knowledge, developing and refining techniques and equipment, and using only the finest implant grade materials available. I got a piercing here over a year ago. Since then I have dealt inflammation around the pericing, infection within the pericing, migration, bumps, bleeding, and showed no improvement with healing. After getting a second opinion, it seems the pericing was done incorrectly, I never had the anatomy to support the pericing, the after care instructions were incorrect and out dated, and the jewelry I was given was low quality and externally threaded. After spending money at this shop and dealing with these complications for over a year I ended up having to take out the piercing.

I have never left a negative review before on Yelp, but I have to be honest here. Shannon has done a few tattoos of mine, and for the most part I do like the tattoos. The issue she has is with communication.
Be prepared to wait, and then wait, and then wait some more for any response. She gives you her # so you can text her to make an appt, tell her what you want, get a price, etc. but then she only replies maybe 25% of the time. So you're left waiting indefinitely, for days or weeks, not knowing what is going on.
For a while I kept giving her second chances, but now I've just given

Josh Rucker does amazing work. I have been to him several times and have always been happy. I have enough had him design things from scratch as well as brought things for him to do and every time I have been incredibly impressed. The shop itself is great, clean. The other artists are always friendly also. Would recommend to anyone looking to get a tattoo.

Josh did an amazing job. At 50+ and this being my first tattoo I needed experience, confidence, and talent. With Josh Rucker I got all three and the most amazing results ever! He was very patient with me while we were emailing samples back and forth ... he did a terrific job at taking my daughters drawing and converting it into something that I will cherish for a lifetime! First and only tattoo. Read the reviews and made my decision on that. Don't let the appearance of outside scare you. It is a great place to go to. Clean and well run. Josh did a great piece for me. Really friendly and professional. Would go back again, but this a one off. Highly recommended. Love my tattoo.

My best friend of 20 years came to visit me so we decided to get matching tattoos. They are cash only, but that wasn't a problem. We were helped immediately. Shannon told us how much it would be for what we wanted. She was very gentle. I will continue to go here for my future tattoos and would definitely recommend this shop.

I got my first tattoo today & called & they told me to just come in. The staff was so friendly & the girl that did my tattoo was really cool & really nice. She explained what she was doing, made sure I was comfortable & she did A GREAT JOB!!!! Couldn't have asked for a better first experience honestly! Strongly recommend

I went in and had my nose pierced by Richie and he did a FANTASTIC job. Everything was CLEAN and he was very careful with the entire process. He went above and beyond to inform me about every aspect, from the positioning of the piercing to how to keep it clean. He was easy going and inviting to talk to. He even custom-bent the nose screw to fit with the shape and size of my nose. Overall, I was very impressed with my entire experience.

I've gotten work done at tons of shops in KC, but hadn't visited A-1 until my favorite artist, Ben Carlson, joined them. I went in on Sunday, and was really impressed. It's a clean shop, big enough to house a nice variety of artists, not so big that they lose the intimacy that makes a place comfortable.
I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do, I thought about adding a few small pieces to my sleeve-in-progress, but Ben showed me some really beautiful original art that made me reconsider. I've always done relatively small things, and didn't know if I could handle

I've had 3 piercings done by Richie and I would recommend him to anyone. He is super-clean, and he educates from start to finish.
I really have no proof (because all of the massive amount of information I now know about piercings I learned directly from Richie) but my intuition tells me that he does everything exactly right. Everything. Exactly. Right. This man is a professional. Go get pierced by him.

I went here to get my tattoo finished by Destroy Troy. Troy is a great tattoo artist with a unique style, though he can do any style you choose. The shop is small and not super friendly other than him, and hes only doing a short cameo here. He designed a tattoo for my boyfriend from an idea and it turned out great, and he finished coloring mine in and it went well and quickly. I recommend Troy to anyone!!
