GROW design+build is a local employee owned sustainable design firm working throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. As a design build firm, we do all of our own fabrication and installation of custom designed landscapes and furnishings. In our workshop in Alameda, we can fabricate custom furnishings and landscape elements using a range ofmaterials from steel, concrete, wood and glass.
We work w ith a network of artisans and salvage yards and maximize the use of locally sourced reclaimed material. As a design+build firm, GROW designs, fabricates and installs all the elements of our landscapes. We bring the same level of craft to each element, whether it is a poured concrete retaining wall, a custom reclaimed redwood bench, or a steel and glass windscreen.

As a design+build firm, GROW designs, fabricates and installs all the elements of our landscapes. We bring the same level of craft to each element, whether it is a poured concrete retaining wall, a custom reclaimed redwood bench, or a steel and glass windscreen. The design+build approach builds flexibility into the entire fabrication and installation process.
Nearly twenty years ago, owner Charles Anderson started GROW design+build in Santa Cruz by creating a 3/4 are organic farm and event space for a country French restaurant in Soquel, CA. After honing his design skills while earning a Master of Architecture degree at California College of the Arts, Charles turned to landscape design, fabrication and installation.
GROW design+build offers custom design and fabrication of indoor and outdoor furnishings and architectural elements from retaining walls to fire pits, custom built-in benches and tables. Our workshop in Alameda allows us to work with a wide range of materials and processes. Our designs incorporate concrete, metal, unique salvaged wood and more.

We worked with Charles Anderson from GROW Design + Build on our recent backyard renovation. Overall the experience was amazing, and his designs, aesthetic and work product were all very good. We initially met with six potential people/companies to renovate our backyard (just under 2/10ths of an acre), and Charles had by far the best designs, ideas and workplan, and his budget and timeline were extremely attractive as well. Throughout the process, we were reaffirmed on choosing Charles. He constantly came up with interesting ideas for the landscape design, different elements in the yard, and cool

Owner of Grow Design + Build, Charles Anderson, is by far the most artistic, creative, exacting, meticulous, thoughtful landscape designers and install masters I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
Charles took a mismatched, hodgepodge landscape and turned it into a beautifully designed and installed piece of art in front of my business located at 304 Lincoln Street in Downtown Santa Cruz.
Charles was not only mindful of my budget but he was also creative with the drainage and the use of low water, indigenous plants, trees and grasses.
Charles commitment to the reuse of existing rocks

If you're wanting a beautiful, well designed outdoor space you should talk to Charles of Grow Design Build. Charles designs spaces that are beautiful to look at but he is also passionate about using native plants and designing gardens that are easily maintained and environmentally conscious. This includes plants that don't require lots of watering, as well as re-using materials in creative new ways ( in one garden space he used old steel plates from a railroad as great looking pavers to create a pathway).
