Board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon Dr. Brett Gilbert specializes in minimally invasive muscle-sparing hip and knee replacements, and a wide range of treatment options for hip and knee arthritis. Hip replacement has become a very common orthopedic procedure - especially with the advent of minimally invasive, muscle-sparing approaches that enable your surgeon to access the joint with less trauma to surrounding tissues.
Minimally invasive surgery to replace the knee joint can eliminate knee pain and restore mobility for many patients with advanced osteoarthritis of the knee. When osteoarthritis causes the wearing away of cartilage in the knee, a partial knee replacement may be just what the doctor ordered, replacing only the damaged portion of the knee with an implant, and keeping the healthy areas of your own knee.

Of all the joints in your body, your knees and hips are among the most susceptible to injury or wear and tear. That's mostly because these joints bear the brunt of our body weight and daily movement. Dr. Brett Gilbert will accurately diagnose and effectively treat a wide variety of orthopedic hip and knee conditions for you.
In our clinic, we provide effective orthopedic surgical care for a wide variety of knee and hip conditions using state-of-the-art technology and the board-certified expertise of Dr. Brett Gilbert. Using minimally invasive, muscle-sparing approaches, Dr. Gilbert can replace your hip joint with a prosthesis, and preserve the major muscles and tendons around the joint.
Those afflicted with arthritis of the hip joint, osteonecrosis (avascular necrosis), or a severe fracture, have the surgical option of replacing the affected hip with a prosthetic implant. When a hip is worn out, both the ball and the socket are involved (also called the femoral head and the acetabulum).

I had hip replacement surgery in December 2021 and Dr. Gilbert performed the operation. The outcome has been fantastic. No complications. No pain. Dr. Gilbert was highly professional, accessible, and friendly and his staff was great, as well as the staff at the North Carolina Specialty Hospital and the physical therapists with EmergeOrtho. I would highly recommend Dr. Gilbert.

Dr. Gilbert and his staff are very accommodating, thorough, and professional. I have recommended him to my family and friends without hesitation. I recently had my second knee replacement surgery done without any complications, and was able to walk the same day without assistance. My physical therapist was amazed at how well I could complete the exercises without assistance.

I am so pleased with Dr Gilbert’s knowledge, expertise and kind demeanor. Before I was referred to him, I spent about a year trying to relieve my severe hip pain by getting various non-surgical procedures, e.g. shots but to no avail. Within 5 minutes of reviewing my x-rays, Dr Gilbert knew exactly what my diagnosis was and how to resolve it. He was very thorough in his explanation. After hip replacements (each side) with Dr Gilbert as my Surgeon, I am happy to say that I can walk finally with no pain. Dr Gilbert is a Life Saver! I highly recommend him to anyone with hip issues. He is wonderful

On 6/17/20, Dr. Gilbert performed a right hip replacement for me which has improved the quality of my life dramatically. Besides carrying out tasks of everyday life, I now can walk/hike 4-5 miles per day ..with zero pain.
If anyone is in need of this type of surgery, I highly recommend Dr. Gilbert. He can be described as brilliant, confident and compassionate.
Not only is Dr. Gilbert a gifted surgeon, but he is a great human being.

Excellent all around. I used Dr Gilbert and his team for my hip joint replacement surgery. Very thorough from first appointment to the post-surgery checkups. Initial advice was spot on to only move forward once the pain was interfering with normal life. Once I was ready, they were amazing all the way through. I am 6 weeks post-op and feel better than I have in years.
