The Birth Cottage now has two completely independent, free-standing birth centers in New Hampshire. We are located in Milford and our NEW location in Salem. We offer a comfortable, peaceful, and safe place to labor and birth. Although the Birth Cottages are completely independent, free-standing birth centers, they are part of an integrated network of coordinated maternity care and supportive practitioners.

The Birth Cottage has been providing family-centered care for pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and well-body since 2002. Our facility welcomes all people who believe, as we do, that pregnancy and birth are joyous and natural events in the life of a family. Although the Birth Cottage is a completely independent, free-standing birth center, it is part of an integrated network of coordinated maternity care and supportive practitioners.
Services
When you choose to give birth at our birth center, you are choosing to give birth in a home-away-from-home. Since 2002 The Birth Cottage has offered a comfortable, peaceful, and safe place to labor and birth on your own terms. Our midwives believe in your innate self-knowledge and strive to help you give birth with confidence and strength.
You need the right support to begin your breastfeeding and parenting journey with confidence. A listening ear, a no-judgment zone, and someone focused on YOUR goals and needs. My name is Piper, and as an IBCLC lactation consultant I will support you as you overcome challenges to reach your individual breastfeeding goals.
Several large, well-structured studies of this issue confirm that out-of-hospital birth attended by a trained, skilled midwife presents no increased risk to mothers or babies.

According to the national non-profit organization Childbirth Connection, "At the present time, we do not have evidence that hospital care offers clear safety benefits for low-risk childbearing families, and studies consistently find that it involves higher rates of intervention than other settings."

I had nothing but an amazing experience throughout my entire pregnancy with Adrianne/Marissa. Half of my pregnancy was under 2020 lockdown and they accommodated all our needs through that crazy time. The office was always quiet, clean and tidy.
Fast forward to birth day, everything started out normal, my contractions were a minute apart around 7pm when we went in to the Salem, NH birthing facility. About 6 hours into my labor I was having a tough time, I felt off. We decided to try the nitrous oxide for pain management. At this point I had been stuck between 6-7cm dilated for a few hours, I wasn

I’m not usually one for bad reviews, but I know when it comes to birthing your baby it’s good to be informed.
I had SUCH high hopes for the birth cottage, as I know many people who have had great experiences with them. And let me start of by saying, for the most part Adrianne is great, Marissa is not.
I was pregnant during the beginning of the Covid pandemic so I was rarely seen in person. My pregnancy started out with them casually telling me I was likely not actually pregnant, but just had cells from my previous miscarriage starting to grow. Thankfully - after a ton of stress and fear,

Our experience at the Birth Cottage has been nothing short of amazing. I have felt supported and nurtured throughout the entire process. We look forward to every appointment. I delivered my son here recently and can honestly say that without these midwives, I never would have had the birth I wanted. I passionately recommend their services to anyone seeking care outside the troubled mainstream healthcare model. You will be glad you did.

Truely the most amazing place i have ever been. I only wish I could have continued my care there but complications wouldn't allow it. Truely though, Adrian is one of the most amazing people I have ever met. I'd recommend this place to anyone and everyone wanting top notch midwifery care.

The midwives were great for prenatal visits but when I went into labor they wouldn't come near me for hours. Jessica and Ariel Left me alone in active labor for about 2 hrs. I was having a prolonged labor, it had been 17 hours and i was only 3 or 4 cm dialated. I wanted to go to the hospital, begged for hours. They wouldn't let me go. I felt like they held me there against my will. I was worried about the risks of prolonged labor such as epilepsy developing in healthy babies. They wouldn't let me leave. They bullied my husband into keeping me there for another 7 hours then finally

Very knowledgeable staff, cautious and caring. I loved having the students around with fresh ideas and energy. The three midwives each have their unique approaches and personalities that cover a wide range of comfort for all.
You must know what you want in your birth experience, as this is a place where you trust your body and are happy to have no interventions or pressure from staff. If you are looking for a place where you have easy access to a monitor attachment and consistent staff interactions, this will not be the place for you. Though the staff at the Cottage will give you all the attention

Worst birth experience you could ever imagine. My sister was in labor for 55 hours and had to be transported to a real hospital for an emergency C-section. The staff was uncaring, inattentive, and worst of all not knowledgeable. They mainly had training midwives who rarely checked on my sister while in the room at the cottage. They used the bare minimum in equipment to check vitals. The main tools were a blood pressure hand pump cuff, a wrist watch and their fingers for my sister's heartbeat, and a cheap looking fetal Doppler probe for the baby. They had varying reports of the baby's position,

My experience at the Birth Cottage of Milford started 5 years ago when I transferred from a large OBGYN practice where I was treated as a number. I started to look into my other options after I had watching several low risk friends of mine end up with C-sections and subsequent complications after attempting natural delivery in the hospital setting. The research was showing me that even though I was considered low risk I still was running a 25-30% chance of having a C-section delivering within the hospital setting. A friend recommended I take a tour of the Birth Cottage and after discussing my questions

3 years ago my son was born, naturally and medication-free in a hospital. It was OK but too "hospital like" for me. I knew next time around I wanted something different. I would give Milford Birth cottage 10 star if I could. After a few friends recommending this hidden gem to me I decided to check it out. From the first moment they were a wealth of information. The cottage is super clean, cozy and kid friendly. We felt 100% safe and comfortable through the entire pregnancy and birth. The midwives and interns were attentive and knowledgable. Our daughter was born safely and lovingly in the water

Great people, great location, close to Mass, close to Manchester, close to Peterborough. The midwives here are great and very helpful, they answer all the questions regardless of how silly they feel.

My experience at the Birth Cottage exceeded my expectations. After having an awful experience with prenatal care, childbirth, and postpartum care in a hospital setting, I was convinced that new mothers had little to no support outside of their own families.
However, the women at the Birth Cottage were with me every step of the way. My iron levels were so low that there was a good chance that I would have to have another hospital birth and I was terrified. They helped me raise my levels and I was lucky enough to experience the care that every new and expecting mother should be receiving. I was

Every birth is different, but the vast majority of births in the world are low-risk pregnancies that are a normal part of life. The birth cottage midwives and student midwives showed personal care and helped us through a long labor for our first child. We certainly plan to come back for any future births.

This place helped in giving me the most incredible pregnancy and birthing experience I could have ever asked for. The staff women are gentle, caring, knowledgeable and intelligent human beings that put your emotional and physical well-being as first priority as well as the well-being of your child. They are so courteous to let you make the best decisions for you, while giving sweet and kind guidance. I will be grateful to the staff and remember them always. Please consider this birthing cottage as your place to begin the life of your child because it is a great beginning and leads to a smooth transition
