Shawl-Anderson Dance Center
Shawl-Anderson Dance Center's mission is to build and support a vital and inclusive community for movers of all ages and styles. Founded in 1958, Shawl-Anderson Dance Center (SADC) provides dance education, institutional support for artists, a performance and rehearsal venue, and partnerships with other community-based organizations.

SADC shares in the work of re-imagining and creating equitable and positive spaces for expression in the East Bay. Racial equity is at the core of our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and antiracism. Shawl-Anderson Dance Center (SADC) is unpacking, examining and addressing its history as a white-founded and white-led organization.

Our professional faculty brings years of experience as teachers, performers, and choreographers to students. SADC is a community of lifelong learners; we are teaching artists passionate about the intersection of teaching and art making. Rudy Apffel began accompanying dance classes as a sideline while in college earning his BA and MFA degrees.
Families unable to pay in full upon registration may opt to pay 50% now and 50% the following month with an automatic credit card deduction. The Shawl-Anderson Youth Ensemble tuition may be paid on a monthly basis on auto-pay. We offer a limited number of need-based partial scholarships for families with a clear and stated financial need.
