I have been working in the fitness and personal training profession for over 21 years. Before I opened Functional Fitness in 2008, I was a personal trainer working in a gym in San Francisco, California. During this time I began to develop back and shoulder pain. I tried many different methods including massage, chiropractors and physical therapists etc.
These seemed to help for a bit but my pain always came back. A colleague of mine introduced me to the Egoscue Method which is the world leader in non-medical pain relief. In January of 2008 I opened Functional Fitness, in Meredith, NH. The studio focuses on postural therapy to help clients become pain free and move without limitations.

Postural Therapy is a whole body approach to relieve chronic pain. When our body experiences pain it is communicating to us that there is a problem with our body's joint alignment and muscle-length tension relationship. Pain is a signal which alerts the body that something is going on. We fear pain and many times use drugs and modalities to mask it.
If you see that there are differences between the right and left side of your body this means it is not balanced. This can lead compensations in the body and eventually can cause limitations and pain. Courtney at Functional Fitness can give you the tools to help you body and feel more balanced and have better posture.
This exercise is great for loosening up the hips! It can improve rotation of your spine and your femurs It also can help open the diaphram to enable you to breathe better!. The outside of one knee and the inside of the other knee will be reaching toward the floor. Your feet will roll from outer edge to inner edge as you go back and forth, like a windshield wiper.

Thankfully, I discovered Courtney and functional fitness a long time ago which has enabled me to live the life I want. Courtney is very knowledgeable and dedicated to what she does and is always enthusiastic about helping people to achieve their goals. I have enjoyed working with Courtney and functional fitness to achieve my pain free goals and to stay a very active 70 year old.

My husband, son and I have all seen Courtney for postural work and it has been an amazing experience for all of us. In addition to having extensive experience in postural therapy she also is kind, easy to work with and very understanding and welcoming. My 10 year old son looks forward to working with her every time because she makes it fun for him! Thank you!
