Tours are not offered at this time, however, we do have small sample bottles of wine available for groups to lead their own tasting at their tables. Check out our "Tastings at the Winery" page here! Masks continue to be required for those who are not fully vaccinated as well as when interacting with staff.

Services
Just down a country road life is at a slower pace. There are rocking chairs on the front porch and you can hear the wind blowing through the vines. Can you hear them? They're calling out to you. Iron Gate Vineyards are located in the Central Piedmont of North Carolina. Historically known for producing brightleaf tobacco grown on small family farms, we are continuing this tradition of farming the land.
I remember this farm as it looked in 1972 as I traveled by it every day on my way to work. In the summer I often saw the owners, Tom and Lucy Lynch sitting in the shade of the huge oak trees in the front yard. When Gene and I began the process of restoring this farm in 1997 our main goal was to make it a working farm.
Four Iron Gate wines win top medals at the Dixie Classic Fair's Mid-Atlantic Southeastern Wine Competition: SILVER MEDAL Chambourcin 2017 "Flue Fire" Sweet White Blend Sweet N' Sassy Cherry - Sweet Red BRONZE "Carolina Gold" - Dry Niagara Come by the winery to grab your favorite award winning bottle!
I have to give my husband Gene credit for suggesting Kenny Glenn as the artist for Iron Gate labels. Gene met Kenny way back in 1979. Gene owned a feed and seed store in Granville County. Kenny worked for IBM and was beginning his career as an artist. Kenny came by Gene's store, The Southern Planter, one day and showed some of his work depicting life on a tobacco farm.
Plan to spend around 30 to 60 minutes per winery to give yourself time to enjoy the tasting and the tour. For this reason, our last wine tasting of the day will begin no later than one hour prior to closing. Designate a Driver. You may be sampling quite a few different wines (generally about a 1/2 oz per serving), you'll want to designate a driver who will not be imbibing.

I was treated like a queen! Given excellent service for an impromptu wine tasting. The staff helped me pick the wine samples based upon my preferences. The tables were clean and seating plentiful. I was given time and space to enjoy the wine and make my decision. Staff was polite, helpful and friendly, and invited me to return. I came to the vineyard to purchase a nice bottle of wine, and I left with three wine bottles. If you love wine, you must try the ones at Iron Gate Winery!

The atmosphere is very nice and the lady that served the wine tasting was very sweet. Although, I have tasted over 50 wineries in the east coast this was the first winery that offers such small portions barely enough for a taste. I also had to leave sweet milo, my dog, in the car because dogs arn't allowed. I did leavectge car running so he would have air.

This was my first visit to a winery. We just moved here from OK a couple weeks ago and decided to go with my wife's Mom who was in town visiting. I'm not much of a wine drinker at all, though I thoroughly enjoyed the tasting. Ended up even buying a bottle of a red wine. The host, or "tasting guide" was excellent. The grounds themselves are really neat. A lot of character and charm throughout the buildings. We will be back.

I visited iron gate on July 9 and it was my first and last time going there. The customer service is terrible. There was an older lady working the front counter and she seemed annoyed as soon as I arrived. I had explained that it was my first time there and wanted to know about the tasting and tour. She acted impatient and bothered. I never got to do the tour because she took another group down to the cellar and ignored me and my friends. Then once we purchased a bottle she rudely said that we have to drink outside. Very disappointed that I drove an hour and twenty minutes. There are a lot more
