Services
These appointments typically require fully custom combinations of techniques and services. For this reason we charge by the hour for most color correction projects. Please consult with your artist for a more detailed description and price. Our "New Talent" Artists have recently finished / are still currently in their apprenticeship and are building their own clientele.
Here at Lock & Shade, we take pride in being able to fully understand our brides vision and most importantly maintain their own personal beauty identity. We believe in two things when it comes to bridal beauty, 1. Your wedding day look should be the best possible version of YOU and 2. It doesn't need to be stressful!
We are currently looking for a full or part time experienced stylist to join our team. We pride ourselves on being a supportive, and empowering space for our artists to grow. We provide our stylists with monthly in-house education, and other benefits like opportunities for paid vacation time and flexible hours.
After working, playing and loving in Asbury Park for years, we decided it was time to open a space of our own. A collective space filled with art of all kinds, positivity and empowerment. We take pride in supporting local art, music, culture and giving back to our community. Our space is filled with art from our neighbors Parlor Gallery, an art gallery on Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park.

From Bianca’s dedicated, professional ownership, to the fantastic Blaise welcoming you in, to the ARTISTS that make you look as glamorous on the outside as you should always feel - there isn’t enough praise I could give this slice of heaven in Asbury Park. Okay...I have found my DREAM SALON!!! I would give them 100 stars if I could. The team at Lock & Shade is ultra inclusive, welcoming, and their talent is unparalleled (not to mention, they are generally just *the* greatest humans.) Repeatedly, all the artists here leave me totally floored– special shout-outs to Fallon, Molly, Bianca, and Kristina!! I feel comfortable being my true self, speaking openly about my hair needs, and am confident I will always leave SO happy with the end-result (understatement of the year.) I absolutely loved this salon from the moment I walked in the door! There is a beautiful courtyard also attached to the salon that is so peaceful. My stylist Gina was so attentive and kind, and I have never left a salon with my hair looking so stunning!! Everybody there was a pleasure! I cannot wait to go back again! Thank you Lock N Shade! Everytime I’ve been to Lock & Shade has always been an amazing experience - I’ve always left there feeling heard, confident, and beautiful! A few years ago I saw Nadja and got some amazing bangs. More recently I’ve been getting color & styling by Fallon who is the sweetest and always listens to my ideas and creates something even more awesome than I could have ever hoped for! I also have had my hair cut a few times by Deanna who was amazing, friendly, and did exactly what I was looking for. After a few back to back disappointments with hair salons in North Jersey (where I live), I had been searching for a cool salon that understood how to cut and style cool hair for ages… I found it in Lock and Shade. A perfect compliment to the Asbury neighborhood — the staff are friendly, cool, and professional and the salon itself is gorgeous. I literally live 1.5 hours away and made the trip with high hopes… Lock and Shade exceeded my expectations, and I will most definitely be back.

I've been to Lock & Shade quite a few times now and between the super friendly staff and the salon environment itself, I feel so comfortable and welcomed every time I walk through the door. I have been getting my hair colored and cut at Lock & Shade since they opened. I have seen different stylist and have always loved my hair. I currently see Molly and the attention to detail she gives to my highlights and cut each time is unmatched. She makes sure I get what i’m looking for without compromising the health of my hair which I appreciate soooo much! I had a great experience at my last appointment. I think Lock and Shade is the best place in NJ to go for unique cuts and colors. They run like a well oiled machine in terms of customer service and the atmosphere is very welcoming and fun. Kristina was an absolute gem- very friendly and comforting, very professional, and a true artist. My cut was nicely blended and has grown out beautifully. I will certainly be making the hour trip back for my next chop!

Ever since my first visit a few years ago, Lock and Shade has become my primary salon. Kristina is my stylist and it’s always a pleasure to come in. Not only is she extremely kind but also so talented at what she does. Every time I bring in a reference photo, she’s able to recreate it perfectly and always makes sure to understand exactly what I’m looking for. Great vibe as soon as you enter the salon. Everyone is very friendly and the waiting area is quite comfortable. Emily was fantastic! Having been bouncing around for the last 6 months I haven't had a chance to get a proper cut and color and she turned that issue right around. Probably took a good 3 to 4 inches off my overall length and she cut some layers into it to lighten it all up. I never had any luck with stylists giving me what I want - but my lucky streak continues with Emily. I will definitely be a regular here!!!

I went to Michelle at Lock & Shade for my first ever pixie. It was a great experience from the minute you step into the salon- everyone is super nice and the salon is extremely clean and stylish. Michelle was… very sweet and gave me the extra confidence I needed when the haircut was complete. I won’t go anywhere else! Highly, highly recommend Lock & Shade.

This is a long overdue review, but the exceptional service, professionalism and care that I received in the months leading up to my wedding to the day of by Bianca Bertoli and her team were incredible. My experience booking my services with Laura Allen and Milady were wonderful. I had several changes, including times and people, but they were handled with such grace and patience. In June of 2019 I got married at the Berkeley oceanfront hotel and had the Lock & Shade tribe do mine and my crews hair & makeup. I knew I wanted to be at a location (not in my hotel room) getting ready the morning of, so when I walked up to Lock & Shade for a consultation I was IN LOVE. They have a beautiful courtyard with tables and chairs outside their doors, and the set up inside was dreamy. Nadya does both and I'll be with her indefinitely-- she is so talented! She is saving my damaged hair, and I love my color/cut so much since going to her! but while there, I see gorgeous work from other stylists too.

- Beautiful space, good products.
- Loathe to get parking in the summer but will still be worth it :)

Lock & Shade is hands down the best salon I’ve ever been to. I spent hours on instagram looking for stylists with experience cutting short young female hair after being butchered time and time again, and… thankfully found Lindsey Ernst! I showed her a video of the haircut I was looking for and she exceeded my expectations! She’s not only very talented, but also the sweetest! The vibe in Lock & Shade is a reflection of their amazing management and team work. Lock & Shade is worth every single penny and more 💕

I travel an hour to see Nadja for my haircuts and color. She is amazing! She fixed a disaster color job from another salon and has been giving me the best hair ever since. She listens to what I want but also gives her expert opinion on what would look best and I completely trust her. Besides being incredibly talented, she's also super sweet and funny. Everyone at the salon is friendly. Highly recommend!

Lock & Shade has best location. Not only is it on the two best roads in Asbury Park, but everyone who works at the small businesses knows everyone and most importantly, is willing to help out which is AWESOME! I've been to Electric Tattoo and somehow had no clue the salon was right above it! I don't even want to call "Lock & Shade" a salon it is so much more than that. The vibe is so different than any other salon I've been to. An employee was setting up Christmas decorations

I found Nadya when I moved to NJ from NY and instantly knew she was the "one". I am very particular with trust when it comes to my hair and Nadya has all of it. She is amazing at cutting and has a fabulous eye for color. She was much more local when I first found her but after she moved I moved right along with her because it's worth the trip. The salon is much more relaxed than the last one which makes for a better experience overall. There is parking readily available but In the summer I suggest giving yourself more time to find a spot due to the location in close proximity
