At The MJB Wellness Center we specialize in helping patients relieve their pain whether it be physically, mentally or spiritually. In our practice there are many different modalities offered such as acupuncture, massage as well as reiki. We pride ourselves on our patient relationships and on our ability to create a healing space where health and happiness are possible.

Our practice is run by Mara J Berkowitz-O'Hagan who graduated from the New York College for Health Professions where she received her license in Massage Therapy in 2001. Mara further went on to study and become a Reiki Master in 2006. In 2013 Mara graduated magna cum laude from the New York College of Traditional Chinese Medicine where she also received a Master of Science Degree in Acupuncture.
Services
The theory and practice of acupuncture is based on a comprehensive holistic health care system that has been used in Asian countries for thousands of years to diagnose, treat, prevent illness and maintain health. Acupuncture treats a wide variety of health conditions by stimulating points found at specific locations of the body.
Cupping has been a part of Chinese medicine for over 2,500 years. It relieves aches and pains, improves circulation and also helps with respiratory and digestive issues. I simple place a specialized "cup" onto specific points on your body, and then use suction to draw your skin into the cups. It doesn't hurt- it simply draws fresh blood to that area of your body, which facilitates the cleansing and strengthening of your qi(energy).
Reiki Is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. While Reiki is relatively new to many of us, it is an ancient relaxation technique dating back thousands of years. The technique is based on the idea that everything in the universe is made up of energy, and this life force energy flows around us and through us nourishing our cells, organs, and glands.
A typical massage therapy session is between 40 and 90 Minutes. Your massage will begin with a brief consultation and review of symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle. You will be asked to undress (many people keep their underwear on) while the massage therapist is out of the room and lie down under a sheet on a padded massage table.
