Services
A common assumption is that the duties of the funeral directors revolve solely around the deceased. While one of our priorities is certainly to provide the upmost care and respect for many families' deceased loved ones, the Penwell Turner Funeral Home is proud of the personal attention and unique service we offer.
Constructed in 1884 as the private residence of industrialist Joseph Seltzer, his wife, and four children, 168 West Main Street has stood the test of time as a showplace in the Shelby community. In 1932, after the Seltzers passed away, Charles Dye moved his one year old funeral business to the Seltzer home from his downtown Shelby location.
I have wanted to be a funeral director since I was a little boy. In 2003 when I was in 8th grade, I shadowed Bob Turner as a part of the Shelby Rotary Club Shadowing Day and was convinced my dream to be funeral director and embalmer was the path I was going to take. I started working for the Turners later that year and we have forever been a working team.
Throughout our lives we all take the time to plan ahead. We set goals and work to reach them. We plan weddings a year out so that when the big day comes the event goes just as planned. We get our affairs in order and enjoy relief once it is all complete.
Just as we plan many family events like birthdays, baptisms, weddings and other celebrations, there also comes a time when people see the need to make plans for what will happen at the time of their death. There are many things that you can do on your own to help you and your family become better organized.
