Bread Alone is a family-owned, values-driven bakery. We have been baking with organic grains since our first loaf in 1983, and we continue to do so today. Our purpose is to serve honest food, create prosperity for our people, and minimize further harm to the planet. We aspire to set an example, to reach more people with our actions than we can feed with our foods.
Boiceville has been our home for the past 38 years. We are renewing our commitment to our Catskills community with a new vision for the future. Bread Alone makes bread using traditional methods of natural sourdoughs and slow, long fermentation. We strive to feed our community the best food possible, made with ingredients from producers we trust.

Our purpose is to serve honest food, create prosperity for our people, and minimize further harm to the planet. We aspire to set an example, to reach more people with our actions than we can feed with our foods.
In 1983 Daniel Leader moved his family from NYC to the Catskill Mountains to bake organic breads on the hearth of a wood-fired brick oven. A chef by training, Dan learned to bake naturally-fermented, artisan breads touring bakeries in Paris. Dan wanted to bring this pure, honest craft to his home and community.
The climate is in a crisis that threatens us all, especially the least fortunate among us. Bread Alone has signed-on to the 100% Committed Campaign created by the Climate Reality Project. With this commitment, we have pledged to source 100% of our energy from renewable sources no later than 2030. We make it a top priority to reduce waste and conserve energy in all areas of our operation.
Bread Alone has been baking with organic grains since our first loaf in 1983. We believe that organic food production is the right choice for individual health, for our earth, and for the farmers that work our fields. This value started with a commitment in the early 1980s to a life that is closely connected to the land.
Bread Alone bakes many products, but our most loved are our sliced breads. These breads are made using organic, stone-ground flours, water, organic grains, sea salt, and little else. We pull inspiration from the Nords with these fully sour, nutritionally dense breads. Our Nordic Breads are made using certified organic, stone-ground flour from our local milling partners.

Bread Alone is a major plastic polluter. Despite trying to brand itself as an environmentally responsible company, it shows no interest in reducing its plastic footprint - by, for example, using compostable packaging. I volunteer at an organization which orders bulk quantities of bread from Bread Alone, and Bread Alone simply ignores our request for no plastic packaging. What's worse, they affix stickers to their plastic bread bags, making them non-recyclable unless the person doing the recycling removes each sticker individually. Upstream, they market "healthy bread". Downstream, they pollute

I love coming in here since I moved back to the area because the bread and pastries are always so good but the employees / service really is not great. Below sub par. The guy who cooks in the corner is nice
I feel like the service is what makes a huge part of the experience. I understand that working during a pandemic is not fun, but we’re all doing it.

This spot cranks out an unbelievable amount of excellent breads, pastries, coffees, and a variety of other goodies. How they do it, I don't know -- their assembly line efficiency is a thing to marvel. And I just picked up pickled Meyer lemons and a bread smorgasbord (ciabatta, focaccia, and baguette) for thanksgiving stuffing.

Unless you can make it to their physical store, ordering from their website is a hassle. They don't take phone orders (or even answer the phone) so it's all strictly done online. As a result, if you have any questions about something you'd like to order - forget it!
I wasn't too crazy about their offerings in the store, either. Most of the wrapped breads were hard. The prices were higher than elsewhere in the area for similar goods, too. I paid $16 for an average-sized quiche that didn't really taste like anything special.

Unfortunately I've had 2 negative experiences at the Woodstock location.
A few months ago I ordered a sandwich and, in addition to omitting several ingredients, there was only a minuscule amount of cream cheese and a small piece of lox on the bagel. The counter person seemed very intimidated by the arrogant boys in the kitchen and she told me the boys said the kitchen was now closed. This was 1 minute after I received the sandwich. Strike 1.
Today the somewhat overweight woman with brown hair and a tattoo on her upper left arm working behind the counter was extraordinarily rude. I did not

This is really the finest quality bread and pastry we have in the area. No need to try anywhere else. Just take my word for it. I am a graduate also of the Culinary Institute of America, and am a pastry chef. On top of it, they are a small, privately held business that has been extremely successful. So why not have the best AND support local business as well!

Bread alone is a modern, bright location with baked goods and a kitchen! I ordered the avocado toast from the kitchen and the almond croissant from the bakery.
The avocado toast was delicious, they were so generous with the avocado and I normally don't like large tomatoes, but the spices and flavor was sooooo good I finished it all.
The almond croissant was crispy and flavorful, the almond flavor was present, but not overwhelming.
If I happen to be in the area I would definitely come again, great service, clean location, reasonable pricing, and great food!

We had the good fortune of renting an AirBnb just half-a-block away from Bread Alone. I suppose for most people, a weekend in Woodstock is best remembered by tie-die shirt stores on Tinker Street and maybe a hike up Indian Head Mountain, but for us we'll remember it with the exquisite carbs at this humble Woodstock stalwart.
Our favorite purchases were the surprisingly airy bagels, best paired with their smoky roasted tomatoes and a generous dollop of butter; the fennel-topped focaccia that went with just about every spread we tried; and the slightly, but not overly, citrusy blood orange

A cute little spot that I didn't expect to have multiple locations, but they do!
Got the Spicy Tempeh which is a grilled eggplant veggie sandwich which was good! The aioli in it gave it enough flavor to wrap the sandwich together! Without it, might have been a little bland--which was what I thought about the breakfast burrito. It is a vegetarian burrito, so we were asking for it; but my carnivorous palette still craved more flavor.
The presentation of all the food was so attractive though. The grill marks just looked photoshopped; so if you want an Instagrammable place to eat; this is

A staple for this small town, it's on the main street in the midst of the small stores and restaurants. Going in, the ambiance is cozy. There is a wise selection of freshly baked bread, pastries, and even a small menu of items for breakfast and lunch.
We ended up ordering the Green Egg Sandwich and the egg, cheese, and bacon sandwich, chai latte with two chocolate croissants. It was so good that we came back after shopping to pick up 4 more croissants for the road, an oatmeal cookie, and brioche for French toast.

Bread Alone Woodstock
Note: This review is for the bakery and the bread.
First I must say I have tried all the breads. I make crazy combinations because their bread tastes good with everything. I'm not knocking down the stars from Five just because they might have soy in the bread. Soy is a bean and I detest the allergic sensitivity I have when I eat too much. Considering most every company's products have soy added I don't have a choice.
I purchase my Bread Alone mostly at Whole Foods and on line. I'm not sure if your Whole Foods in other parts of the country carry it

Nice little bakery in Woodstock. Good selection of house made pastries. I had the fruit tart which was perfect with my afternoon coffee. We saw bags of salted chocolate rugalech which I will get the next time.
They had a safe flow to the store (enter from front and exit in the back). Smart idea during pandemic!

When it comes to bread (and pastries), Bread Alone in Woodstock, seriously satisfies. Day after Thanksgiving and pandemic going on, I picked up some munchies at 10am. Whatever your preference, there's something here for you. And if it's a sugar rush you're after, these pastries are definitely creative.
Maybe Bread Alone closed at some point- but despite the challenges of the pandemic outbreak, they're open, thriving and have adapted newer ways for in-person purchasing, take out orders even rearranging their indoor layout for entering and exiting. Ordered a few breakfast and

Came here multiple times during a 4 day stay in Woodstock. Mainly due to the fact they were one of the few places open everyday and early, but also all everything is so good!
The breakfast burrito was a favorite! Great vegetarian option and not too heavy as burritos can be. Throughout our time in Woodstock, we also got the BLT, Peruvian chicken, club and green egg sandwich for our hikes and car rides. The bread is seriously so fresh and makes all the difference for taking the sandwiches to the next level. Pastries are also delicious! Wouldn't hesitate to go back and try everything on the

Lovely spot for breakfast and brunch. They have a nice outdoor area you can eat after picking up your food inside.
The croissant was a delight, soft and buttery and dense. The avocado toast has a colorful array of tomatoes and the spices and lemony flavors on top of the avocado are wonderful, a step up from your usual. The iced coffee is strong and nice.
The loaves of bread are a great to grab to-go. We enjoyed slowly eating the olive bread throughout the day.
