I am Terri Pocock and my husband is Rick Pocock. We are the very proud owners of Swede Chimney Sweep & Dryer Vent Cleaning. We didn't start out as chimney sweeps. In fact, even as young adults, we never imagined that we would be in this industry and we never imagined that we would love our jobs as much as we do!
Swede Chimney Sweep was originally started in 1985 by some dear friends of ours. They named the business after his native country, Sweden. Nine years later, in 1994, they decided to move back to Sweden so we offered to buy their business. Rick and I both had highly stressful jobs at that time, working 40-60 hours a week.

In 2000, the National Fire Protection Agency, also known as the NFPA, revolutionized the way the chimney industry performed chimney inspections. In the NFPA 211 Standard, they developed specific guidelines for inspecting chimneys by establishing a three-tier inspection system-Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3.
It is not uncommon for original dampers to become non-operational with age. The purpose of a damper is to close off the flue pipe and to reduce heat loss from the home during the winter and air conditioning during the summer. Once the original damper is seized, it is not always possible to get it operational again.
These terms can be used interchangeably. Because of strict animal protection regulations, removing certain kinds of birds is illegal and subject to heavy fines if we were to remove the birds because we don't have a special animal removal permit required by law. In this case, we can refer you to a wildlife rescue service.
Heat shields date back to the 15th century in Europe for wood-burning open fireplaces, when they were called fire backs. Most were constructed from an iron casting and were decorated with various designs. Beautiful ornate fire backs from Europe can still be found today. During the colonial times in the United States, cast iron fire backs were quite common.

I contacted Swede Chimney Sweep right before Christmas. We've had issue with our fireplace for years. Terri was AWSOME!!! She took a long time talking to me and explaining me everything in details. Rick just cleaned and inspected our chimney here, as well as at our son's house. We are very pleased with the service, as well as the excellent information regarding safety when using a gas log set in a fireplace, which we didn't know before.

We have been using Swede Chimney Sweep for years. Having them come out to inspect and clean our chimneys gives my wife and I the feeling of safety each year while using our fireplaces.

These guys were amazing from start to finish! From being very informative when I made the appointment over the phone, to the professionalism of the guys when they came to inspect and repair our chimney. They were very knowledgeable, and even came back the same day due to a mistake on our end - one of our family members tried out the newly installed chain for the damper and was a bit rough w it. We were concerned it messed with the seal of the damper, so Rick came back a couple hours later to make sure his install was still in place.

Even though they came over to inspect our fireplace, the end result was that our fireplace didn't require cleaning and they made a suggestion to install a fireplace guard to lower the height of the fireplace opening to help with the smoking problem. They left and said they weren't going to charge us, which caught me by surprise. I wanted to give them a tip for at least taking the time to visit our property but they left quickly and I didn't get a chance to. On top of that, they provided an email confirmation prior to the appointment that was
