Services
Out-of-network: We do not contract with or accept insurance. This means that Dr. Stein's practice is fee-for-service and is considered out-of-network. Health insurance carriers often place limitations on the duration, frequency and type of care provided by contracted physicians. Important Note Regarding Insurance Listings: As UCLA clinical faculty, Dr. Stein volunteers her time 1/2 day per week to train resident psychiatrists at UCLA.
I have been a medical doctor for 20 years and feel very fulfilled by my work helping people reach and maintain mental health and balance. I chose psychiatry as my medical specialty because I thoroughly enjoy both the science of medicine and the application of psychotherapy - both effective tools that can be used independently or in combination to achieve emotional wellness.
Healthy boundary-setting is often a skill that needs to be developed in order to reduce the all-too-common sense of feeling overwhelmed. The simple act of going to therapy on a regular basis means that you are protecting time for yourself to step back and look at your life, your values, your goals, your own behavior, and your feelings from a new perspective.
At your initial session, Dr. Stein sets aside 90 minutes to get to know you face-to-face. You will have time to introduce yourself, describe your background, and why you are seeking assistance. Dr. Stein is interested in understanding your past and current life experiences.

In order to give you the best treatment possible, she will ask a lot of questions about your childhood, your formative years, and your adult experiences, with a focus on prior difficulties, symptoms, diagnoses and medication treatments, doses and responses. She also inquires about other conditions and symptoms that may have not been considered in the past.
Please be aware that the following are general resource lists - not referrals for specific individuals. We therefore recommend you investigate each provider/clinic further before scheduling appointments. Insurance information is not provided here due to our inability to keep up with individual office changes; please inquire with each practice about insurance and their policies.

I have been seeing psychiatrists almost my whole life and Dr. Stein has by far been the best. She's brilliant and has a wealth of up-to-date knowledge of psychiatry as well as other medical fields. In this way, she is always cognizant and thoughtful about how certain psychiatric treatments may affect other conditions, medications, etc. that you may have. She is very accessible, so she is quick to respond to patient communications and resolve any issues. Finally, Dr. Stein is so kind and approachable, and I have always felt completely comfortable being 100% open and honest with her. I am so thankful

Dr. Stein is committed to helping people. I know this because she is as excited as I am to see my progress. She helped me through transitioning to new medications without any side effects and never talks down to me or pushes me to do things I’m not comfortable with. She’s matter of fact and answers all of my questions. I love that!

I suggest avoiding this doctor. I saw Dr. Stein for depression. She recommended her very expensive TMS treatment. I was reluctant because I read TMS had a 50-50 success rate; I went ahead with it because she said her personal success rate was 80 percent. It was a total failure. However, Dr. Stein insisted I was wrong that the treatment didn't work and that it was successful. Makes perfect sense why her personal success rate is so high, doesn't it?

Above was my original review of Kira Stein.

I am riding in response to Stein's response to my original review.

I've been seeing Dr.Stein since I've moved to Los Angeles about five years ago and don't know where I would be if I didn't find her. She is always very understanding about my life issues and has given me advice and direction that has led me to success. Not quite sure why the past couple reviews represent someone other than the dr. Stein that I know, but I would just say to disregard them
because that is not a representation of the dr. That I have become so familiar with.

Dr. Stein is incredible and compassionate. I have been seeing her for over five years and her help has changed my life - for the better. She spends plenty of time with me (45 min.) and isn't one of those docs that just gives you a prescription and see ya later. She takes the the time to understand her patients and tweaks any medicine accordingly. Her recommendation for a therapist was phenomenal, and when I showed up sick for a visit, she called around and got me an appointment with a top-notch primary care doc. She truly cares, very rare in today's world.

I've been working with Dr. Stein for nearly 4 years now. I consider her to be a true partner in my health care and really look to her in guiding me through rocky waters. She is the least judgmental doctor I've ever been treated by; she is thorough, compassionate, invested and gives you all the tools you need for success. I cannot recommend her more highly!

Cyber security breaches dominate the news now and healthcare is getting hit more than any other industry because of the negligence of healthcare professionals in general. Protecting patient data is vital to client's personal privacy. It is also key to protecting a person's identity. Kira Stein is serious about protecting her clients and serious about proactive cyber security.

Dr. Stein is the only psychiatrist to successfully ween me down in Xanax. She truly wants to help change your life for the better using more appropriate medication and therapeutic techniques. She's wonderful.

I've been a patient of Dr. Stein for 3 years, and I've been very happy with the level of care she provides. I've seen many psychiatrists in the past who are just "going through the motions"--Dr. Stein is NOT one of them! She is genuinely interested in what is happening with my emotional, physical, and situational state, and she really approaches my situation with fresh eyes each time I see her. She is not a therapist, she is a psychiatrist, so I wouldn't go in expecting a therapy session, but she does take considerably more time to really understand what's going

I have been seeing Dr. Stein for about 10 years. I went in with severe depression, and she worked with me to get the right meds in order to get my depression under control. She is professional, yet compassionate. She made the experience of going to a psychiatrist a pleasant one and has always been there to help me over the years. The staff is very friendly and very responsive to emails and voicemail messages. I would recommend anyone seeking the help of a psychiatrist to contact Dr. Stein. You won't be disappointed.

I have been seeing Dr. stein for about a year now and am very happy. What I like about her is that she is no-nonsense and kind at the same time. She is a very intelligent woman and I trust her advice. I started seeing her because I wanted to get her opinion about being on medication while being pregnant and I am very glad that I sought out her guidance. I feel that she is my advisor and not just a doctor "telling" me what to do. She really wants you to feel good about your treatment and would never want you to do something that you are uncomfortable with. I definitely recommend her.

Dr Stein is amazing. After having my baby I struggled with postpartum and was placed willy nilly on some medication by my primary care doctor. I got to a really dark place before researching and finding Dr Stein. I thank my lucky stars I found her. She took the time to really assess my case and my history, including my family's history of depression and anxiety. After trying a few things we found the right mix for me and I am no longer living my life in the dark. If something isn't working Dr Stein doesn't just push more medication on you; she has lots of non prescription options

I have been going to Dr Stein for 10 years. Being a nurse, I am cautious about placing my trust in a random doctor. Dr Stein understands how long term depression can deteriorate a persons ability to function. She is a genius in her knowledge of the action of medications. For years I used my internist for help with chronic depression and realized he "tried" drugs to see what worked without the pharmacological knowledge necessary for treating anxiety and depression. I have never felt that she questioned my "feelings" as being real, which is very important to me in trusting a psychiatrist. My biggest
