Ohana Counseling Services
As humans, we are resilient, but it's hard to filter out the "noise" from the environment and the many demands that life puts us through. Many frustrating attempts to solve a problem may not have worked leading to a sense of helplessness as to why things go so badly. Most of us want relief from pain, physical or emotional. Generally, therapy is sought after an upsetting event or crisis that challenges our existing coping skills or brings up overwhelming feelings and distress.
Services
For 24 years, Ohana Counseling Services, Inc. has been providing behavioral health services to the East Hawaii community. Our providers provide a range of assessment, psychotherapy, and counseling services to meet the needs of our diverse population. The professional staff includes a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor and Licensed Mental Health Counselors.
Assessments are typically court ordered, recommended by a physician, or required for surgical operations. We ask that you have the following information ready and on-hand when calling to schedule: Probation officer name, charges you were tried for, attorney's name, court dates, due dates, surgery date, physician names and medical insurance information.
Child Welfare Services: We are not taking these unless they come directly from the case worker. The first appointment is always with the parent(s) or guardian(s) without the child. This is so that the provider can get a clearer understanding of what the goals for the child are. This can often be difficult to discuss with the child present.
I specialize in Anxiety, Depression, and Substance Abuse. I'm down to earth, easy to talk to; and I aim to foster an atmosphere where you can really be heard. I also teach skills which can help you to manage your mental health. For Christians seeking a therapist who shares their belief; I offer therapy from a biblical perspective.
I have a Masters in Psychology and Counseling, and licensed by the state of Hawaii as a mental health counselor. I've spent the past 40 years helping the people of Hawaii with social, emotional and occupational issues. Though I am experienced in various areas, I've recently turned my focus on adult males.

Located downtown Hilo across from bears coffee on the makai side of the corner Kilauea (Ke'awe) and Waianuenue.Char & Dr Elizabeth Bush are awesome, and the staff is very helpful and polite. I always leave feeling better than going in. I also went years ago when it was all different staff they were extremely helpful with my family and issues I had with my eldest son. I highly recommend the family therapist or individual counselors. top notch.
