TOGETHER WE: Provide access to healthy food at a fair price; Are a center of community activity; Promote local and regional food production; Keep capital and jobs in our community; Practice environmental responsibility and sustainability; Reflect our unique and diverse community. Our community understands the cooperative model and experiences its economic and social value.
In the late Summer of 2002 a few people began meeting to talk about opening a co-op grocery store in New Orleans. A handful of us met regularly in cafes to share ideas, and also to discuss research we were doing about how to start a co-op. We found a lot of useful information on the internet and from other co-ops around the country.
We support our local economy, by sourcing our products as close to our store as possible and by building lasting relationships with our farmers & producers. What is local? We define local as products that are grown or produced in the state of Louisiana, or within 250 miles of New Orleans.
We commit to providing our community with a wide assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as packaged and bulk foods that are minimally processed and contain quality, wholesome ingredients. We prioritize sustainable agriculture by supporting farmers that focus on building soil health & water quality, while refraining from the use of synthetic pesticides and herbicides.

Check out our monthly sales flyers and keep a lookout for sales signs throughout the store to spot great deals on products you'll love. Each week we offer a variety of items that are at outstanding sales prices for owner-members. We're growing the program, improving our signage, and featuring some of these items in our sales flyer to help you access even more great deals.
The New Orleans Food Co-op is a member-owned cooperative. We are 100% owned by people in this community, people just like you. Member-ownership is an investment in the cooperative system, local farms and businesses, and sustainable production methods. As a democratic organization, each owner invests one share and receives one vote.

Want to like it as an "owner" (a whopping 5% off deeply inflated prices) and close to home but it's crazy overpriced and the overall selection is poor- the produce is so random what is there you could never rely on something being there to make a specific meal. one day they'll have mushrooms and the next day they'll have some random weird fruit and no lettuce or a staple vegetable like broccoli or whatever. There are never any "deals" here and it's seriously surreal how expensive stuff is. I mean it's expensive even for a gourmet store. The people are cool to me, decent beer cooler, but it's usually

It's a shame that a store that professes to be all about health could have such an emotionally toxic employee I did not catch his name but he answered the phone and I asked him one simple question are masks mandatory or optional he acted extremely offended and in the most passive aggressive disturbing way said they are not mandatory however he strongly encourages me to wear one to protect the staff I cannot emphasize enough how dark this felt being on the phone with him so instead of being offended I said well alright and I also encourage you not to wear masks because it deprives your body of the

I LOVE FOOD CO-OPS!
We stumbled into this neighborhood grocery from the lobby off of Island of Salvation and indulged in some really cute gifts (a plant, insect repelling incense sticks, a zipper pouch). We were only in town for the weekend, so grocery shopping wasn't really in the itinerary, but happy we found this cute spot!

Greatest grocery store ever and I AM THE OWNER!
For those of you that don't know, we are offering the lowest prices we can with an extremely low markup. We don't have the same buying power that Walmart does, but we're growing and as we get more members we can place larger orders and ultimately get lower prices.
We listen to our owners here and if there's something we don't have and you will regularly buy it, we will get it. You can even come to the meetings. What we need is more active owners who will spread the positive word about what we're trying to do.

The items here are overpriced, and the guy/man at the checkout line is extremely rude. If I am paying two and three times the price for a product, I should at least expect to have decent customer service. This man is here every time I come to the store, so he works often. He is condescending and extremely rude.

I am an owner here but am often disappointed with the prices. While grateful to have access to some hard to find, high quality items... overall the price point is extremely inaccessible to any average person. I tried to shop only at the co-op for about a month and I nearly went broke. For example raw chicken breasts are $14.99 a pound! All meat is over-priced even for pasture raised products. This co-op has a bad reputation amongst locals as being too expensive. It is cheaper to buy six single beers than it is to buy a six-pack of the same beer. Is someone not catching these things? Some employees

Unreasonably expensive and staff could be kinder. It doesn’t help to purchase something twice the cost of what it would be elsewhere only to be snidely condescended to by the cashiers when you state you aren’t a member. Employees with masks under their noses, a nasty sink at the front where you are required to wash your hands upon entering... and I mean nasty. How is it cleaner or more sanitary to grab knobs on a sink and a push on a soap pump? If they are going to require that, they should have a completely contactless system. It’s frickin gross.
