The name La Petite Grocery pays homage to the history of the building that houses our restaurant: In the late 1800s, John B. Willig built a Creole-style cottage on the corner of Magazine and Berlin (renamed General Pershing after World War I) Streets in the Jefferson City area of New Orleans. He leased the store to a young entrepreneur named Frank W. Mackie and together they opened the Central Tea, Coffee and Butter Depot.
Mr. Mackie would sell items such as butter, fresh from the creamery; coffee, which was roasted in the store; teas, imported from around the world; as well as local goods like pecans, rice and field beans. Customers would come by foot, horse and buggy or take a ferry from across the river to purchase the delectable and unique groceries they stocked in their store.

Bistro setting with white tablecloths. We had blue crab beignets, apple salad and turtle bolognese. Each were distinctly delicious. Our server was knowledgeable and helpful in selecting dishes and drinks. We’ll have to come back for the burger - every table had one and it looked good! Would recommend.

The menu at LPG looks amazing. The burger is 5 stars and worth returning just for this. Unfortunately I did not order the burger (insert sad face here). We shared the blue crab beignets - too creamy, flat flavor, needed an acid. Supposedly they are served with a malt vinegar aioli but it was just bland. I had the shrimp and grits for my lunch. I love shrimp and grits and rarely, if ever, have had one that I did not enjoy. I was looking for a punch of cajun and creole flavor but instead got smacked with sweet on sweet. I ate the shrimp but left the grits. Not good. Hubby's burger was amazing

After a long drive to New Orleans, we quickly looked for a decent restaurant from the eater website. I picked this restaurant because of a good review on eater and because it closes at 9:30 pm on Thursday.
I didn’t expect that it was going to be one of the best restaurants experience we had during our 4 days in NOLA. Inside the restaurant has a classy yet relaxing ambiance. The service was great throughout the meal.
If you like floral drinks, try the “In The Clouds” cocktail. They put egg white in it, making the drink tastes so smooth. It also looks very pretty. Their other cocktails look

I did not set out to eat here, or to find this locale, but it was the right time of night during the week when they were one of the few still open with a fairly good menu available and ready to go.
We started with a bottle of wine and some Brussels Sprouts. Now, I know we got there about a half hour before closing, so service was rushed and brusque, but the wine helped take that edge off. We didn't lolly gag or anything, and we also weren't the last diners out of the building; we were just excited to eat and drink for the evening.
From there, we got the duck and the steak, and another

Kicking myself for coming to NOLA so many times and only now making my way here. Amazing restaurant. Ricotta dumplings was a new flavor combo and dish I've never experienced. So good. Server also recommended the blue crab beignets and they outperformed expectations. Stuffed w blue crab. Not as heavy as I thought they'd be.
Turtle bolognese was great. Absolutely loved it. Big flavor. Pasta cooked perfectly. Wife's seafood stew was alright. Broth was overly salty which was surprising, but the seafood was good. A smaller daintier version of seafood stew which I wouldn't recommend

Probably the best meal I’ve had in New Orleans.
The bolognese was one of the best I’ve had. The sauce is perfect. Turtle tastes mostly like ground beef you’re worried about liking the flavor.
Burger has to be top 10 I’ve ever had. Normally with a patty that thick it’s dry or raw inside but the flavor and texture is perfect. Fries are thin style and good but there’s better in NOLA.
Ricotta Dumplings are perfect. Dunk as much of the perfect sauce on them as you can.
Roasted lamb t-bone was perfect. Get it medium rare. Not a single bite you had to chew forever and it almost tasted

I saw La Petite Grocery on several internet lists when researching where to each in New Orleans so we thought to give this place a try.
I would more than happily return here for the food and drinks! We ordered cocktails to start - they have several options on the menu. Next, we ordered two different soup specials, the gumbo and honey squash. I would recommend both, but really loved the squash soup. It had a smooth creamy texture with fresh scallions and oil drizzle on top - definitely warmed me up on a cold night. For entrees, we ordered the lamb and a red snapper fish special. Again,

I have tried to eat here 3 times now. Tonight was the worst. 35 minutes and we didn't even have the BREAD we requested. A couple inside who entered 15 minutes after us had their appetizers. Whether our server pissed the kitchen off or something else remains a mystery as we left without eating because it took so darn long!
Do not recommend. Neither would the table adjacent to our per our conversation.

LPG had an excellent warmly lit atmosphere. The ingredients that makeup the menu call to mind some of New Orleans' great cuisine classics (think turtle) with a few noteworthy add-ins (think crispy pork belly). Though the dishes aren't particularly soulful in the traditional sense, they do mark a welcome and inventive take on NOLA dining as we know and love it. Mac and cheese is to die for!

1 star, but only for the service and ambience.
Food lacked basic seasoning and by that I mean SALT, and the “wow” factor for its high cost. We had the Crab beignets (not much crab to speak of and runny sauce), rabbit entree, and shellfish stew.
You can walk across the street to a place like Shaya, and experience better tasting food in a similarly classy environment.
It’s not a place we need to visit again or that I would recommend to anyone.

What a charming and quintessential New Orleans restaurant. Proof of covid vaccine is required. Alejandro provided the best table service and knew the menu. Whatever he suggests you can trust. Everything was delicious. Freshly prepared and melt-in-your-mouth good. It's an event eating here. A wonderful event!! Thank you all!!!

We celebrated my birthday here and I was so enchanted with the entire experience. The restaurant is beautiful with its elegant decor and warm lighting. Our waiter was fantastic and had great suggestions.
Definitely get the blue crab beignets if you haven't had them before, they alone are worth the visit. A real highlight was the dessert menu, which was inventive and delicious. The pressed melon and chevre ice cream was unlike anything I've had and it was delicious and light.

My favorite neighborhood restaurant is still firing on all cylinders. Went last night to celebrate my anniversary and discovered they changed up the menu again with some cool new stuff! As always, there's a board of daily specials too, which includes a soup, salad, appetizer, entree and dessert- except yesterday there were 2 special desserts!
We did a little of both, trying the new pork belly appetizer (absolutely delicious in every way) and the special salad which was crabmeat, green bean and tomato (excellent). We also tried the tabbouleh, which is new- it was light and fresh and had generous

This was our first and last visit. For an expensive restaurant, the service was horrific. The best way to describe the attitude of the host and servers was "disdainful". We entered the empty restaurant with an early reservation, and the host walked us to our table - no smiles, greetings, nothing. When our entire party arrived (we were having a family lunch to celebrate a birthday), we asked the host to take a picture (again, the restaurant at this point is still EMPTY). He sneered and begrudgingly did it. Keep in mind that our celebrations have been at Commander's Palace for the

Cute restaurant, classy vibes, good food!
We visited as a group of 8 on a Friday night with a reservation, and they seated us quite comfortably at a large, round table. They seemed pretty busy when we arrived around 9pm, so that's likely why, but our waitress was a little slow on taking our drink and food orders. But once we had our orders in, the drinks and food were flowing!!
What we ordered:
Appetizers:
- steak tartare (marinated olives, lemon aïoli & cured egg yolk): pretty good, a little on the salty side for my tastes, but a good starter to share!
- blue crab beignets (malt vinegar

This is supposed to be an American French spot but I come here for the American side of things.
Stonewaller - an unfortunate name commemorating Jackson - can we get a name change, or a few in this town? - but with cinnamon, mezcal, and honey, it's like smoking a sweet orange. The best cocktail I've had this year and one of the most memorable ever.
Ricotta dumpling - pillowy ricotta in smoked tomato sauce with blistered tomatoes and simmer herbs. Small but a delicious dish.
LPG Burger - two visits, and a consistent winner. Loosely packed burger cooked a perfect medium rare.

This restaurant won the 2016 James Beard for best chef south for a reason. The crab bigneits are probably the best in town. The creative takes on classic dishes are wonderful, such as a turtle bolognese. You won't be disappointed by the cocktail menu either. Try their take on the French 75 - the LPG French 75. And be sure and leave room for desert if at all possible!
