Long Beach Grocery
Website
Long Beach Grocery Cooperative (LBGC) is a start-up community-owned and operated grocery store that is committed to providing the Long Beach community with affordable, high-quality, wholesome foods and products for healthy living. Our store will source from local producers, artisans and fair trade businesses, educating our community on benefits of healthy eating, conscious consumption and community engagement.

Grocery co-ops have ample produce sections that focus on seasonal, high-quality ingredients. Buyers work with local suppliers, who deliver fresh items. Patrons tend to value fresh produce over packaged or frozen foods, so there's a higher rate of fresh produce turnover. Though most co-ops work with national organic food distributors, they also forge relationships with local, small-scale producers.

Long Beach Grocery Co-op will be a full-service grocery store in Long Beach CA, prioritizing affordable local, organic, and sustainable food. As a cooperative, it will be community-owned, but it will also be open for shopping to the public. Co-ops operate democratically; Owners are able to vote for the board, what happens to the profits the store will make and have regular opportunities to provide input and feedback.
Though every grocery cooperative is different, co-op members and boards generally seek out local, organic, high-quality foods and dry goods that may be available in limited quantities, or not at all, at traditional supermarkets and establish close relationships with local producers contributing to the local economy.
Let's gather as a community and celebrate reaching our first major milestone of 800 Owners. We have gotten here because of the dedication of the co-op community, the culmination of 8 years of hard work, and the community's investment in building food resiliency in Long Beach. We are so close to opening our store, even though we have a lot of work left to do.
