The owner and president, Rick Ariagno, studied Engineering and Physics as an undergraduate student and completed his M.S. Degree in Industrial Technology. Summers off from college and later summers off from his work as a vocational education teacher were spent working at a variety of engineering and construction related jobs. In 1980, while serving as Acting Director of Career and Vocational Education, Rick secured a grant to build an energy efficient, passive solar home.

Solutions Based on Building Science. HEC Technologies evolved from its parent company Home Energy Control, Inc., founded in 1982, and located in Joliet, IL. HEC Technologies is a nationally recognized authority on insulation, acoustics and building envelope design.
We work directly with homeowners, building managers, architects, acoustical consultants, building inspectors, product manufacturers, and general contractors providing: cellulose for walls, blown cellulose for attics, spray-applied polyurethane foam, air sealing, K-13 thermal acoustical finishes, sound transmission control, foam roofs, fireproofing and consulting.

Let us diagnose the problem, design a solution and implement the plan with our contracting division. If you are planning a new building, take advantage of our extensive building science background and our 28 years of contracting experience to guide you in making wise design choices. The best laid plans are only as good as the people carrying them out!
HEC Technologies thorough understanding of Building Science principles including heat transfer, air movement, moisture migration, indoor air quality, pressure differentials and mechanical systems allows us to view the building as whole system made of multiple sub systems which all interact. Understanding this concept allows us analyze the whole structure to determine the root cause of the problem.
Most insulation contractors respond to customers complaints about comfort, efficiency etc. by installing more insulation. They often miss the real cause of the problem. As a result the owner is left with an unresolved issue, less than acceptable improvement in comfort and continuing deterioration of building components.
Designing and building durable structures that provide a safe, comfortable, efficient, and healthy living environment starts with an understanding of building science. All buildings have forces acting on them that create pressure differentials.
Most building envelope problems arise when we place an air permeable insulation, like fiberglass, over a big gaping hole in the building envelope and then expect it to stop heat transfer, air movement and associated moisture movement. We need to understand that every building is a system made up of multiple sub systems that all interact.

Report
I recently had HEC do an inspection of my homes insulation and upgraded my attic insulation and various other areas to current code requirements. This is the second home I have had them work on one of my homes and I have been very pleased both times. They were prompt, courteous, reasonably priced and paid attention to detail making sure that I was well informed throughout the process. They made a point to ensure I was happy before they left. Special thanks to Tim and Eric for going the extra mile to make sure all my questions were addressed.
