The Home Cake Decorating Supply Co. has been a popular fixture in North Seattle since it opened in 1962. Two sisters, Thelma Sowards and Irene Amundsen, opened the store after being frustrated by their inability to find the supplies they needed for their love of cake decorating.
Thelma, who had studied cake decorating in Portland and had to make the 3-hour journey to Oregon to purchase her favorite supplies there, encouraged Irene to join her in opening a business offering classes and supplies here in Seattle.

Here are recipes from days gone by that have been passed around Home Cake Decorating Supply Co for many years. We sell the meringue powder and icing base at our shop. Please note that the recipes that call for egg whites are using them unpasteurized. It is recommended that you pasteurize your egg whites to prevent any chance of illness.
At times, our customers can't make it into our shop or we may not have something in stock that they desire. Yes, you can log into Amazon and maybe find what you need - but we can give you advice and help you figure out exactly what you need and how much of it as well. When we either ship items to you are special order them for in-store pickup, we refer to these as Special Orders.
Home Cake Decorating Gift Certificates are a great way to provide a gift for someone when you don't know exactly what they want or need. With our extensive inventory, we have no doubt they will be able to find numerous items to suite their need. Our Gift Certificates are easy to use and never lose their value.
You need a 1/2 cup of buttermilk but all you have is 2% low-fat milk and you don't feel like traveling to the store just to get a container of buttermilk that is way more than you need anyways. So what can you do? Substitute 1 cup milk plus 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice (I prefer lemon juice); and let the mixture sit for about 5 to 10 minutes to curdle.

I live in Bellevue but going to this store is well worth it! I love making cakes and this store has everything you need, and lots you learn you want! The owner is super helpful and is happy to advise you. Things are clean, well stocked and organized. Anybody interested in having the right baking tool for the job should give this place a try. It's fun to just wander around in there! Highly recommend.

I went to buy macaron boxes, and they guy was so helpful he made sure I knew how much they were and put in an extra box just in case his count was off. I ended up buying other things like cookie cutters and gold powder I only spent $100 (which I was expecting to be more) great place for supplies, well priced, and great service. Will be going back for some new cake pans soon!

This a gem. The owner was amazingly warm and helpful! He helped me find the black cocoa powder I needed and also shared some helpful tips about baking my cake. There is a great selection of sprinkles (be careful, you might leave with more than you had planned)! He was so pleasant and welcoming to all his patrons, including a mom with 2 kids. I was really touched by seeing such warmth at a business and I am so glad I found this place.

We stopped in today not really knowing what to expect. I was a little overwhelmed knowing what I wanted to do but not knowing where to start. The store has so much to choose from. Dave was so helpful and so full of knowledge. I walked out with a few essentials to get started with cookie decorating. I am excited to start on this new adventure. Thanks for all of the help Dave!

Really wonderful shop. We didn't go there physically, but ordered some flour, sugar, and a baking pan for delivery during this crazy time of social distancing. Prices were fair and the owner was SO nice.
The things we ordered were pretty basic, but the next time we want to make anything, we're definitely buying from Home Cake Decorating Supply. They have everything you could possibly need - different kinds of flour, different kinds of sugar, frosting, sprinkles, and basically any dessert decorating tool or sweet you might need!

I've used home cake decorating supply before. they had everything i needed when i wanted to make candy for a work event, and i go straight there whenever i need something a little weird because i know they'll have it. it's a cool little neighborhood place with nice people and hidden treasures.

Dave is THEE best. I decided to undertake the task of baking a cake for my friend's graduation party. I came in with a bunch of pictures for ideas. Dave talked me through the whole cake baking and decorating process. He looked through my pictures and told me what ideas to forget about and what ideas were feasibly possible. Turns out, the main ingredient is time!! I bought all of my decorations and butter cream from this establishment. This is the first cake I've ever had to make and decorate. So I'm gonna preface this with I am NOT a professional baker or decorator or professional food anything! I am not especially artistic either. I have always been so welcomed into Home Cake, never felt intimidated by the oodles of professional supplies available and have always basically had my hand held and made to feel anything was within my abilities given the proper info about tricks and technique (which they lavishly shower on you for free)!
