Steele Law Firm
When we make the difficult decision to move a loved one into a nursing home, we place our trust in the nursing staff and the Facility administration to care for them the way they deserve. That is why attorneys Jonathan Steele and Kevin Chaffee have dedicated their practice to holding nursing homes responsible for the care of their residents.

We are committed to fighting against nursing homes who put profits over people resulting in chronic understaffing, inadequate training, and insufficient policies and management. This can lead to severe injuries such as pressure ulcers, falls, or even death. If you, or someone you love, was injured or died because of Kansas or Missouri nursing home abuse and/or neglect, let us fight for you.
Services
We handle cases on a contingency fee basis, meaning we only get paid when we obtain a recovery for you or your loved one. Our contingency fee model allows our firm to prosecute nursing home abuse and neglect cases in an efficient, detailed, and creative way that gives us an advantage against the nursing home.
It's natural to be facing a wave of emotions after losing a loved one because the nursing home you entrusted to care for them failed to keep its promise. Feelings of denial, anger, bargaining, or depression, can consume a family member who has lost a loved one. On top of those feelings, the thought of investigating and filing a nursing home wrongful death claim can be overwhelming.
As people age, they have difficulty completing tasks that were once easy. For example, many nursing home residents have trouble chewing and swallowing. This is often due to a medical condition called dysphagia that results in trouble swallowing because the esophageal muscles no longer work properly.
Families keep loved ones living independently for a long as possible. However, many elders eventually require the specialized care of a nursing home. This is especially true for loved ones suffering from dementia. Indeed, over 5.1 million people over the age of 65 suffer from some form of dementia, while half of all people over age 85 suffer from the disease.
Approximately one-third of all people admitted to nursing homes have diabetes. Eighty-percent of those residents also suffer from some cardiovascular diseases, while fifty-six percent have been diagnosed with hypertension. All of these issues are treatable, however. That is why many families turn to a nursing home to provide the constant care and attention their loved one requires.
