Evergreen Preschool was founded almost 40 years ago by four women in the Vergennes area who wanted a preschool for their children. Since its early beginning, Evergreen's philosophy has always remained the same. Children learn best by doing what they do best - through their play. A child's self-directed play is their primary and most important mode of learning, and it ensures a strong foundation for personal and intellectual growth.

An environment, whether it be indoors or out in the natural world, which is warm, welcoming, dynamic, challenging, and safe encourages the greatest possible climate for learning.

Services
Children are brought to the playground by their parent or guardian where teachers are waiting for them. Then the parents bring his/her child's belongings into the school and sign them in. Children use our specifically designed playground to run, climb, swing, dig and play group games. Children are encouraged to explore nature and understand the world around them.
We encourage families to become involved. Family/school partnerships have been found to have very positive benefits for children's educational success. Families provide a nutritious snack on a rotating basis for the entire class 2-3 times a year. A snack calendar and snack requirements are distributed the summer before the school year begins.

After decades of doing this work, we have created this helpful list of the best preschool gear available:. BACKPACK: Be sure to get something that can fit all that winter gear. LL Bean, Lands End, and Pottery Barn all have decent sized backpacks that can fit all the mittens, snowpants, and extra clothes that a child needs to bring to school.
The Board of Directors is made up of current parents, alumni parents and community members. The Board of Directors has responsibility for the general management, the property, business and affairs of the school and fundraising. The Board decides school policy and revises school by-laws as necessary.
