In our fast-paced, ever-changing world, it's too easy to avoid or ignore the importance of our emotional well-being. Therefore, finding time to slow down; to focus on understanding our emotions, thoughts, and feelings is essential. It helps address the anxieties that hold us back from becoming our true selves.

Consider therapy as fitness for the mind. It is as important as eating well and doing exercise when getting physically fit. Furthermore, investing the time to identify what patterns from your past are causing present stressors or anxieties, enables you to enact the changes required to create a more balanced you.
Services
I'm a board certified female psychiatrist based in midtown west, Manhattan. I specialize in helping clients improve their mental health, navigate their life challenges, overcome emotional issues, and manage career transitions and goals. Accordingly, as a medically trained psychiatrist, I utilize an approach to patient care that is compassionate, individualized, and embraces the latest thinking, tools and techniques.
To offer a compassionate, individualized, and creative approach to patient care. In addition, as a psychiatrist and mental health counselor, I integrate a wide range of therapies to best serve the need of my clients. Psychotherapy reveals an understanding of yourself through the identification of habitual, repetitive or ingrained patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving.
As a preventative measure and under the CDC recommendation for social distancing, I conduct HIPPA compliant, video-based, online therapy and medication. As we approach the end of this unprecedented year and distancing measures remain in place, I am committed to building my clients' resiliency as we navigate these challenging times.
Effective treatment begins with a thorough consultation, and comprehensive psychiatric assessment leading to a correct diagnosis and treatment plan. To this end, this can usually take a few sessions, requiring a detailed history of your problems and complaints, as well as your family and medical history.
As a Midtown West Psychiatrist I work with my clients to focus on the psychological root of their emotional suffering. Much of our mental life occurs outside of our awareness. This is because sometimes our thoughts, feelings, and wishes are too painful to acknowledge or we feel they are wrong or forbidden.

I have worked with Dr. Algus since transferring to New York from the Midwest. She is one of the most effective, compassionate, knowledgeable professionals I've ever worked with. As a partner in a top international management consulting firm, I recognize quality when I see it. She's committed to her clients and will be an enormous help.

Dr. Algus is a doctor who listens. I have been seeing her for 10 years, at this time about 4 times a year. Listening is so important . Knowing that she does that creates a sense of trust in her. She helped me find the combination of prescriptions which keep me grounded and not depressed. She is comforting, caring, and very professional. I think someone looking for an excellent psychiatrist would agree that a review by someone who has had a continuous long term relationship with a doctor says it all.

Been making great progress with Dr Algus. I signed up for her (business)coaching consulting. As a small business start up her sound advice and recommended tools and techniques have proved invaluable. If I ever need some therapy I'll call DR Algus.

I have been seeing Dr. Algus for about two and a half years. I can't say enough good things about her. She is deeply smart and profoundly funny, as well as being highly compassionate. Her analytic training allows her to see beyond the surface of the statements you make in treatment, but not in a condescending or aggressive way. She is focused on being constructive and helpful.
She's extremely practical, and a lot of our treatment has centered on building structures that allow me to live the best life possible. This is not to say she couldn't talk Freudian theory all day; she could. But at least

I started meeting with Dr Algus earlier this year to for business/life coaching. Being a couple of years into a business start-up she has given me some valuable and practical tools and techniques that have sharpened my focus and created a better perspective on my short to long terms goals. Great listener and her NY humor is a natural de-stressor.
