The mission of the Academy of Physicians in Wound Healing (APWH) is to enhance the treatment and decrease the pain, suffering and dysfunction of patients with complex wounds. These patients are treated by physicians involved in the care of all wounds, including acute, chronic, post surgical, post radiation, reconstructive, burns and other problematic wounds.
Our purpose is to improve the quality of life for these patients domestically and worldwide through physician and patient education and advocacy as well as engaging in legislative initiatives involved with the delivery of healthcare.

APWH, the Academy of Physicians in Wound Healing, originally formed in 2011 specifically for physicians (MD, DO, DPM) now includes advanced practice providers (Nurse Practitioners-NP and Physician Assistants-PA). The Academy provides: clinical education that focuses on diagnosis and management of the disease as well treating the wound.
Dedicated to provide an increased level of the sophisticated education to support physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants to aid in making diagnosis and developing treatment management. Educational programming is designed specifically to: identify the etiology, determined treatment regimen, a system to follow outcomes and coordinate the clinical education with aspects for organizational and business efficiency.
Grandfathering is now available for APWH. Physicians (MD, DO, DPM) who are fellows or associates of other organizations in wound care can now join APWH and transfer their same designation or credential. In addition, Nurse Practitioners (NP) and Physician Assistants (PA) who practice wound healing are welcome to join as affiliate members.
The certification exam is field-specific and was designed and developed by nurse practitioners and physician assistants for their colleagues. The test has been beta tested with more than 100 candidates. It is psychometrically balanced and is designed to test every-day practical knowledge. The exam is available online 24/7 through ProctorU.
