Karin Lynn Carlson (she/her) ups the ante on yoga conversations and offers yoga teachings that honor yoga tradition. She's committed to disrupting the co-option of the practices of Black, Indigenous and WoC for white wellness and spirituality. She is unraveling the dominant narrative both in her own body and in wider yoga culture.
Yoga isn't a business. Yoga is a tool for personal and social revolution; studio culture and the white wellness industry have broken its heart. Karin (like you put the car in the garage) lives on unceded Lakota and Anishanabeg territory, North Minneapolis. There are inherent difficulties and paradoxes to taking up a contemplative life, an embodied path, not least of which is where do I go once I realize I have so many questions?

Return Yoga is a non-profit organization offering community based yoga classes, outreach classes, and deeper courses of study. On the last Saturday of the month at 10 am CST we host a community conversation. This community conversation is open to any one. It is not a workshop or a lecture, nor is it an sana class.
While most of our practice over the years will be alone, at home, or in classes, every once in a while deeper study, community, and connection with a teacher infuse your heart. This is NOT a standardized yoga teacher training. It is a trauma-informed, anti-racist, intersectional feminist exploration of our own practices, yoga philosophy, and the yoga industry.
TECHNIQUES SESSIONS 30 minute, do it anywhere including your lunch break practices. They prove: the heart of yoga is in the breath, the mind, and the way mind threads through the whole body. MINDFUL MOVEMENT CLASS: 60 minute or less movement classes focused on nervous system reset. STRENGTH AND GRACE: workshop style classes that incorporate - or flirt with - inversion, arm balances, and the 'big' postures.
Tuesday nights 6-7:30 pm, starting in September and running 18 months. This is the foundational text on yoga, and we'll study it in the traditional way: line by line, over a long period of time, with a teacher who has previously studied it line by line with their own teacher.
Unlike any other training out there, this year long cohort and mentorship experience brings together leading voices on accessibility, social justice, ethical teaching and the yogic tradition to challenge and revolutionize not only the yoga industry, but your own heart. This is where practice/your own experience touch.

People can get a workout based yoga class anywhere - YouTube to the YMCA to a high end, serene yoga studio. I am interested in emphasizing the fact that ordinary human lives are sacred. We can heal ourselves and in healing ourselves we become better parents, partners, community members. We open to our own creativity and bring beauty into the world.

Traveled to St Cloud for a 3 month work assignment during one of their coldest winters since they started recording weather. Brutal. Finding this yoga studio was the saving grace that allowed me to pull through without being committed to a looney bin or hoarding cats (for warmth, possibly food).
I came expecting touch-your-toes-now fingers-in-the air-granny-style yoga, and left feeling delightfully more advanced in my skills. Karin is a fantastic teacher -- she really is good at teaching and not just saying ok now go into this pose. The classes were challenging; she offered a wide range of

I have always been afraid to try yoga as I am a very uncoordinated person but when my friend told me about this class I thought I would try. Well I loved it. I may not get all the positions right but I do not feel judged by the other participants and our instructor Karin. What you get from this class is a good feeling inside and out. Karin is wonderful and passionate in what she does.
