He grew up in Sherrills Ford, North Carolina. While in high school and college, Matt became interested in construction after spending time with his brother in New Mexico who is a gate and fencing contractor, building docks on Lake Norman as a carpenter's helper and as an intern helping with estimating and project management for a commercial General Contractor.
