We focus all of our attention on personal income taxes. We file all the various forms with the IRS and all of the states that have a personal income tax. Joplin Tax Service is locally owned and operated by a CPA with over 45 years experience preparing income tax returns. Our preparers are all CPA-trained and receive annual update training.
We have a staff of ten competent preparers all of whom are supervised directly by the CPA owner, Patrick Kelly. Every tax return is reviewed by a second competent preparer before being electronically filed.

On an income tax return with a filing status of "Married Filing Jointly, " it is possible for the refund of one taxpayer to be withheld by the IRS to pay the debt of the other taxpayer. The taxpayer whose refund is being applied to their spouse's debt is referred to as an "Injured Spouse." The IRS (and some states) provide a method to protect the injured spouse's refund.
The economic aspect of the decision to purchase solar energy usually includes the Solar Energy Tax Credit factor. The Solar Energy Tax Credit is a non-refundable tax credit. The credit can be used to reduce the taxpayer's tax liability to zero but it cannot create or add to the taxpayer's tax refund.
Sometimes it's just impossible to pay the IRS (or a state authority) the full amount of taxes due by the deadline. Fortunately, the IRS (and most states) will accept installment payments. Because of our experience in helping taxpayers establish Installment Agreements with the IRS, we have never had an Installment Agreement Request rejected by the IRS.
The Taxpayer Advocate Service works to help taxpayers with individual problems that they have not been able to resolve through "normal" channels. The Taxpayer Advocate Service is an independent organization within the IRS with the responsibility to get problems resolved. The Taxpayer Advocate Service does not have the authority or infrastructure to actually fix any problems.
With the IRS being short on staff, we don't see very many full-blown field audits anymore. However, the IRS is becoming very sophisticated and adept at using computers to identify possible issues with a given tax return. Accordingly, it is not uncommon for a taxpayer to receive a letter from the IRS requesting additional information or documents.

The staff was pleasant however I was kept waiting for 30 minutes in the middle of my appointment while the tax preparer was on the phone with a client for her own business that had nothing to do with Joplin tax. They charged nearly 600 dollars to basically e-file my taxes. With the lure of an advance on your tax refund which after being told I would qualify did not happen. This business is border line predatory! Do not get your taxes done here, huge mistake.
