In 1974, Tony McDowell planted the seed for what has grown to become McDowell Lumber today. Our company's humble beginnings were sown from a single portable saw and a lumberjack's eye, as Tony scouted the woods of North Carolina for timber fit to become railroad ties.
A few years later, McDowell Lumber branched out from the railroad industry into other markets, supplying raw timber resources that had been crafted into a vast array of grades for a variety of uses.We are dedicated to quality, and work with mostly poplar and red and white oak - hardwoods that can stand the test of time.

The NC Forestry Association recently released an article stating the forest products industry has now surpassed textiles as North Carolina's largest manufacturing industry. With just under 3,000 forest product facilities and over 300,000 landowners timbering trees for profit, it has become evident that our great state is a tremendous resource for lumber.

Went by to discuss bulk purchase for my business. Multiple emails and calls. Asked to increase order size to meet their standard order. I was ok with that. After all this all contact stopped. Left hanging trying to purchase enough material to build crates for three container loads of materials. Very disappointed with the service from here. Have since established a relationship with a different mill.
