In my first career, I was a chef/owner of a restaurant in San Francisco. It was here that I realized that besides a love of cooking (and eating) that I had a real passion for listening to and supporting people. This passion led me to my second career as a psychotherapist.
Subsequently, I received my Masters in Social Work from Catholic University, where I had the privilege of working with an amazing collection of professors, clinicians, and supervisors.During those years, I provided therapy for people with AIDS at NIH and for dually diagnosed people at a community mental health organization.

My work is devoted to optimal well-being. I am trained in a variety of effective mental health modalities. I've studied the most effective techniques to help people create happier, healthier lives. Whether you are looking for treatment for yourself, your family or for both you and your partner - I can help you set goals to improve your life and work with you on achieving them.
I work to help my clients gain clarity into how and why they have lost access to meaningful parts of themselves and move towards a life that feels more connected and alive. Our work is tailored to fit your individual concerns, preferences, and goals. In addition to helping you reach your treatment goals, I will help you with personal and interpersonal tools that will continue to be useful to you long after you have left my office.
People come to see me for a variety of reasons. Some want therapy to resolve trauma or dysfunction. Others are more interested in self-development. These goals often overlap between personal growth and in-depth psychotherapy, but all involve the choice to work toward making your life better.
You may have long-standing issues, such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, loneliness, poor body image, trauma history, compulsive behaviors, emotional numbness, sexual concerns, and/or difficulty with career or handling money.Or you may be going through a crisis - perhaps a sudden loss of a job, a parent, a spouse or relationship - or maybe were diagnosed with a life threatening disease and are seeking support and direction.

Psychotherapy is one of the most effective and efficient ways to facilitate personal growth and sustainable life change. It can be a challenging process at times, but in return, therapy offers the possibility of real and lasting change. My goal is to help you to live a more joyful, accepting life, with less time lost to anxiety and depression, and more time gained for living.

Karenna is an amazing therapist! I came to our meetings with some not-so-great therapy sessions under my belt from many years earlier that felt aimless and unhelpful. So what attracted me to Karenna's practice was her goal-oriented approach. I was in a very transitional point in my life and felt it would be just the right gift to give myself to find a therapist as my guide. Fast forward a few years: we've wrapped up our sessions, I have gained so many tools to help me navigate life going forward, I've gained confidence in myself and have an entirely new lens to see my world through

I have worked with Karenna for the last two years, as I stumbled in a transition to a new job and new phase of life. I can't say enough good things about her and her work. She is calm, encouraging, insightful, and helpful. Most importantly, she works hard to understand you, who you are, what makes you tick, and helps you slowly understand yourself and understand what you can do to help yourself.

I began seeing Karenna over 3 years ago in order to gain clarity in my personal relationship. While our sessions started with a breakup, which turned in to the most peaceful and loving breakup I've ever experienced thanks to Karenna, our sessions have helped me grow on emotional and spiritual levels that have improved my relationships with friends, family and colleagues. It has also helped me reduce stress, increase self awareness, and have a much healthier approach to many of life's obstacles. I look back now and continue to be surprised at this growth that I truly didn't think
