The Latin American Chamber of Commerce (LACC) was founded in 1976 by 18 entrepreneurs to provide professional management consulting services and technical assistance to small businesses, and to promote the concept of entrepreneurship and business development as the formula to increase the employment level of local communities in the greater Chicago metropolitan area.
The challenges for a small minority business at the time were monumental: access to capital for a small ethnic business was a major problem not only because of language barriers but also due to the absence of a Hispanic presence in the commercial banking industry's lending areas.
Access to government contracting was also a major impediment to business growth because of existing barriers to obtain sureties, the relatively small number of Hispanic Certified firms and the weak enforcement of regulations pertaining to minority contract participation.It was under these conditions that we met to propose the LACC's founding.

The Latin American Chamber Of Commerce is very helpful for those who are interested in getting district contracts and or start their own corporation and getting loans for your business. The staff is great and helpful with the corporation I just opened Torres Restaurant Group. I couldn't be more satisfied to be a member of this chamber of commerce.

I never realized the power of knowledge, until I visited the LACC. I am a female Hispanic small business owner, and lack the back-up to compete against larger companies in my industry, but we do have much experience in the field. After a counseling session at a different chamber of commerce, I felt even smaller. They weren’t too sure about what I needed, what to recommend or who to refer me to. I felt like I was answering my own questions. I gave up on certifying myself as a minority, until a friend told me about the LACC.
