In the past, the only way to get divorced or determine child custody (parenting time) was through litigation. This approach isn't ideal for many clients because it immediately establishes the process as adversarial. Alternatives to litigation were needed. One such alternative, mediation, has gained significant popularity in recent years.
If a party is dissatisfied with the decisions made by a family court judge, they may wish to appeal that decision. Appellate courts review the decisions of trial courts to determine whether those decisions should be upheld as a matter of law. Once a decision is made by a trial court, parties have a limited amount of time in which to file an appeal, so it is important to seek legal representation for your appeal immediately.
