Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art, combat sport and self defense system that is one of the most popular and fastest growing arts today. BJJ is an art form that emphasizes ground fighting techniques which involve various chokes and joint locks used to dominate and submit the attacker. At Princeton BJJ, we focus on your development as a practitioner and an individual.
It was a game changer and revolutionized martial arts. At the time I was training JKD and Thai Boxing and found out how ineffective they were without a ground game. No matter what bad thing happened that day or how difficult my day was, when I am teaching it all goes away. Seeing the students working hard, having fun and their smiles makes it all go away.
I had wanted to box, but after doing it for 1-2 months I discovered I was terrible at it and kept getting injured! I still wanted an alternative to working out at the gym 'lifting weights and doing cardio', so my best friend Roy Duquette turned me on to 'Groundwrestling'. I started with Sambo, then moved onto BJJ shortly after.
As I age, it's nice to see that what I have fought hard to learn will not be lost just because I cannot physically perform at the same level. STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) teacher and coach. I train public school teachers on proper implementation of state standards in each of the STEM areas at the K-5 level, and I show teachers how to use new educational technology at the K-12 level.
I had trained in other martial arts and felt that if the individual I trained with was larger he would always have an upper hand. When I found Jiu Jitsu I found an art that could neutralize anyone. Being able to see a student learn a technique that they thought they could not do and realizing that Jiu Jitsu truly is for anyone.

Great gym for athletes or families alike. The staff are friendly, down to earth and extremely professional. Really awesome community, feels like family. Art, Emily and the rest of the instructors are top notch. A real gem of a BJJ gym.
My 2 boys and myself have trained there for almost 2 years. We plan to enroll our daughter too when she’s old enough. PBJJ has been a staple for us and we’re still excited to train everyday we can.

Thank you for the excellent zoom classes and for making it available to everyone (even non members) during this crazy time. While we are all stuck at home, it’s nice to have some semblance of a schedule and to have some interaction with other people even if it’s via zoom. All the classes have been fantastic and creatively modified so that students can practice at home alone and use what they have. Looking forward to more online classes and hope to visit your school when this is all over. Thank you again for the opportunity to train with Princeton BJJ!

I tried out a few gyms before coming to PBJJ. The first thing that stood out to me is when I spoke to the person on the phone to schedule my first free visit, he was up front about the pricing. There was no sketchiness. He didn't try to lure me in, or sell me on anything.
Upon my first visit, I was greeted by Emily, one of the owners, who led me into the class. I was then greeted by the other owner Art, who welcomed me as the class was doing warm ups. At the time, I had no clue they were owners, just based upon how integrated into the school they were/are. All of the schools I've been

This school, the instructors, and community have been an amazing blessing in our life. Our 8 years old son has been training for a little more than 2 years and loves it. BJJ is all he wants to do and we are very happy with being a part of this school. Emily and Art are the nicest people and we highly recommend Princeton BJJ!

Great place to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The people there are great and they have a great family atmosphere. The instructors are passionate about the sport and it shows when they are training and teaching. They have classes everyday of the week (except Sundays) so it fits in to your schedule nicely. The students are also great and really help you learn.
The only con (for me) is the location of training - during hot summer months, it can get quite warm in the training area.

PBJJ is hands down the most competitive BJJ place in the area. Top notch instruction, as well as friendly and family oriented environment, Emily and Art care about their students both inside and outside the gym and you can feel it as soon as you step on the mats. They are well connected in the BJJ world and competition circuit. To top it off they are a Marcelo Garcia affiliation, so you get a lot of perks with guest instructors, training at MGNYC and other BJJ schools as well. If you are looking to make friends have fun and bring your game to the next level come try a class, I guarantee that

Princeton Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is great for both the beginner, intermediate and advanced BJJ practitioner. They provide TOP NOTCH instruction and personal care in your personal opportunities. Art and Emily live for BJJ and that passion shows in every class. I had the pleasure of attending PBJJ for two years and was very fortunate to have received my purple belt under Art and Emily. They made my time there very memorable and I was sad when I had to leave.
GREAT PEOPLE and GREAT training environment for all.

This is the antidote to the McDojo. Do you hate being locked into a long contract? Do you hate being nickel and dimed for "belt testing"? My middle school aged son trains here and loves it. He tried other martial arts before BJJ and likes this the best. The kids program isn't watered down techniques. It has real live full contact sparring but the instructors emphasize safety and teamwork so it's very safe. I liked it so much I've started training here too.
