Janus Travel started in 1979 when Ted Janus was a Chicago Police Officer. Ted Janus started selling affordable, discount vacation packages that could be arranged on short notice primarily to law enforcement, fire department personnel, court personnel and federal officers. Janus Travel began as a discount travel agency on Higgins Avenue in Chicago with 3 employees in a rented office.

Mark was extremely helpful and straight forward with everything. He was able to get us a great deal on hotel and airfare for a multi-city trip. In this day and age people are so into the booking online. We are guilty of it too but sometimes you need someone with knowledge and experience to guide you and also have the ins and outs for deals. We have used Janus travel for our honeymoon and this year for our anniversary. Geri is absolutely wonderful and Sue is great too. We had the perfect honeymoon trip just by giving them our budget and what we wanted. This year we planned to go to Punta Cana and a hurricane hit. I can't thank them enough for our amazing honeymoon. It was above and beyond anything we could have dreamed. It was the perfect honeymoon. In September, I was working to plan for a family vacation...first in many years. Regrettably Janus fell short with no follow-up. The staff seemed disinterested in working with the customer. I just went to a wedding in Riveria Maya, Mexico and the couple used Mark and Janus Travel to set up the accommodations. The wedding was approximately about 100 people and all my friends had similiar opinions of Janus Travel. The company was honest, responded timely to questions, and a pleasure to deal with. Some folks had to deal with change of plans due to snow and ice and Mark was able to make some alternate plans to accomodate. We live in the area and have used Janus for over a decade. I am so pleased to see that this business is still thriving especially now that travel arrangements are done online. Nothing beats having a travel agent really guide you through the process as it can get overwhelming. They are beyond accommodating and quick to reply to calls and e-mails. Mark went far above and beyond to find me a Hotel and car in Boston during the busiest convention week i've have ever come across. I have never dealt with a more dedicated travel agent in my many years of travel. Mark was recommended to me by a friend who also travels extensively. I have used Janus for most of my cruises. I found that Mark and Irish were very accomidating in helping with all of my wife's and my travel adventures. We book a trip through a "big box" agency and, other than book the cruise were on NO help with travel or accomidations.

I have never used a travel agent to book a trip. In fact, I consider myself to be a pretty savvy trip planner/deal finder when it comes to traveling (I got that from my mom's meticulously planned vacations growing up).
However, when three of us decided we wanted to take a warm winter vacation getaway we decided to ask for help. We wanted something all inclusive and under a certain budget. The kicker was that one of us would be flying out of a different airport- so all of those deals on Obitz became too confusing.
