In 2009, the George M. Holt Funeral Home, Inc. celebrated 155 years of tradition, as being one of the oldest and most respected businesses in Haverstraw. The business was originally established in 1854 by Heman R. McKenzie as a furniture and undertaking company. In 1879, it became the Abrams and Purdy Funeral Home (William Abrams and William T. Purdy).
Most of us plan ahead in life. We plan for our wedding, our children's education, family vacations, and other significant expected life events. We also plan for the unexpected events of life by purchasing home, auto and medical insurance. Understanding the benefits of pre-planning has prompted many to take the step to plan their own arrangements.
Many who have undergone the emotional strain of arranging a funeral within hours of losing a loved one have made the choice to pre-plan their own funeral. Doing so lifts the burden from their loved ones by relieving decision-making pressure at a time of grief and emotional stress. Funeral arrangements are a deeply personal choice.

Kathy and her family run their beautiful funeral home with such grace. My family and I recently held a service for our late grandmother here, and they were accommodating, thorough, and extremely thoughtful. They went to great lengths to make sure we were comfortable and completely informed throughout the process. Many thanks!

We had our Mom’s service at Holt recently and I am very comfortable saying that they went above and beyond to make our family comfortable during an extremely difficult time. Many of our visitors commented on how great Mom was cared for and that obviously meant a great deal to us. The hometown touch and familiarity there cannot be rivaled.

After the second family service handled by Kathy here, I am not surprised they already have five stars, but indulge me to add more. The personal empathy and service displayed by the staff is unprecedented in my experience of attending services. You may expect them to lend an ear, understand your grief, honor your every request and treat your guests with respect and hospitality
