The Wigwam Gift Shop opened in 1914 to greet travelers on the Mohawk Trail, one of the most beautiful drives in Massachusetts. More than a century later, it would be completely renovated as a Sky Bar, a Coffee House, a Cafe, a Bakery and a gift shop loaded with local crafts, ice cream, honey and maple syrup.
Although the store looks much different today than it did, the current mom and pop operators kept the same spirit to welcome travelers from near and far. The once popular roadside cabins were renovated in 2019 with modern comforts such as air conditioning, LED lights, and full bath with showers.

A drive east 4.5 miles along the Mohawk Trail from North Adams brings you to the Wigwam Western Summit. At sunset, the beauty of the sun disappearing into the Taconic mountain range while casting an orange veil over the sky is a vision indescribable.
As the first automobile-tourist gift shop in the 20th century, it came about through the investment of Mansfield sisters: Theresa, Helen, Mary, and Elizabeth, who in 1913 bought the site when the Mohawk Trail was still being constructed across the Hoosac Mountain peaks. In the early 1920s, the Mansfield sisters ran the shop in the summer and spent their winters in Florida.

Located at an elevation of 2014 the Wigwam Sky Bar is one of the highest bar in Massachusetts. Our wines are curated from small family owned wineries from California, France, Germany and Italy as well as right here in the Berkshires. The gift is a travel booklet from the 1920's titled "A Trip Over The Mohawk Trail".

Stunning views (wish we had clear skies to see it better) and some tables and benches to take it in. The pourover was not good though - maybe they were rushing, but they didn't wait for the bloom, so the water went straight through the grounds and the coffee was super weak. (We were really cold and tired and wanted good coffee.) Would definitely come back for another chance though.

What an amazing place.
The pour over coffee is delicious!! The handmade treats are delicious, especially the lemon blueberry bread. Moist, sweet!
The view is one amazing part of this stop. Not to mention the great gifts AND the magic T-Shirts are a must grab! They have post cards and other local crafts, fudge, and so much more! They take any form of payment and if you’re near or driving by, please go see them!

My boyfriend and I just returned from a long weekend stay at the Wigwam Western Summit. We ended up staying in the larger house instead of one of the cabins, although the cabins did look very nice. The house was impeccably decorated in a modern style, with a double-sided gas fireplace, rain shower, open concept full kitchen with breakfast bar, and of course, a beautiful view over the Berkshires from the many windows. My boyfriend and I loved waking up to the mountains and eating all our meals with a view.
Lea was a wonderful host. She was very warm and welcoming and you can tell she wants her

We just came back from a stay at the Mahican cabin and I don’t have enough words to describe the experience. From the very beginning Lea gave us a super warm and informative welcome! The ease of check-in and check-out, the dinner and breakfast made by her (the braised sausage was delicious!) were DELICIOUS. The coffee… oh the coffee! Pour over deliciousness that you ought to try with one of their scone, I recommend the mix berry scone. Go for the hospitality, but stay for the VIEWS! This place serves them at every turn. We are already planning to come back later this year!

The owners are amazing! This little place has something for everyone! Great place to grab an amazing coffee, a snack and soak in the scenery as well! Is on our list as a HAVE to visit every time we are in the area! The cabins look amazing and the service I am sure is nothing less than extraordinary for them as well though we have not stayed there YET.

What a find in the middle of the Berkshires! Lea is the owner of this incredible, eclectic new play on a country general store with a bar. We stopped in for a coffee and a breakfast sandwich. The food was wholesome and made from scratch in the little kitchen area. Her coffee was a slow pour and delicious. Every spot in the store is purposeful. Have a bite and enjoy the view. If you're in North Adams you have to stop in! Can't wait to go back!
